Summary
There’s a woman on the second floor balcony, thin fingers wrapped around a cheap cigarette. She’s half dressed, only in a t-shirt and underwear, but she can’t bring herself to give a damn. Sometimes when she exhales, when the smooth smoke flows up and out past her chapped lips, she thinks she can see the edges curl into the form of her husband. A part of her wonders where he is; a part of her hopes it's 6 feet underground.
If she had seen a strange sparkle— a shimmer where there shouldn’t have been one that night— you’d never hear it from her.

This was originally supposed to be part of a longer fanfiction involving the Justice League and J’onn. I got a portion of it complete, but ended up losing steam. I do think the first chapter holds up well on its own, so i decided to post it. i may end up coming back to this one day.

Summary

Ratchet shrugged a little. "In the end," he said, "a medic is a servant to the needs of others. My job is largely reactive. Ventral fuel line clogged? I can fix that for you. Hinges grinding? I fix it. Rust infection; I fix that too. Why not do this as well? It's just on you to tell me what you need."
