He’s not scared of him. He just gets this anxious feeling of having to speak to him again. Viktor makes him nervous is all.
He’s intimidating. And dangerously pretty. And he exudes a confidence Jayce can barely wrap his head around.
Jayce cares about everything. He cares about who he is, how he looks, if anybody likes him, if he’s doing anything right.
Viktor didn’t give a shit who he was or what he had to offer. He simply had better things to do.
And it made Jayce unable to forget him. His bluntness, the way his alluring accent softened every blow.
He wanted nothing more to avoid Viktor. For his own sake.

He can play it cool. He can be entirely nonchalant about the whole thing.
It’s not like he cares what Viktor thinks about him. Not like he so badly wants to charm him, that he stresses over being unpleasant.
He really likes Viktor. Viktor’s witty, and kind, and his mind is sharp and his smile is crooked and so on. He likes his gentle laugh, his playful hands and his peppered kisses.
Of course Jayce being the way that he is, struggles to stay calm about this. He doesn’t want to mess up. He doesn’t want to ruin this, the same way he always seems to. He’s endlessly caught between oversharing and keeping distance.

Summary
Neither of them asked whether it was a date when Jayce reserved them a private dinner at an elegant restaurant. Neither of them wondered about sleeping in the same bed, or spoke about how Jayce’s apartment was now Viktor’s apartment. He just made him a spare key one day, and Viktor came home to him every time.
One thing they could both agree on is there was no need for discussion.
Jayce opens his mouth to find the words. He hesitates for a while. Then he finally says it. “Why did you ask me to say that?”
Viktor looks away, brow furrowing in disturbance. He pulls his knees to himself and hugs them, as if guarding his body now as well. “I don’t know. It was in the moment.”
“Only in the moment?”
Viktor opens his mouth to find his own words, but they never reach.

Summary
Asking for Jayce’s number now felt pathetic. He could ask to have lunch with him, but he’s likely to already have lunch plans with every other person in the city. And asking him to spend time with him outside of work was not going to happen.
He enters Jayce’s classroom holding his clock in his hands, the one kept mounted his own classroom. It hasn’t worked properly for over a year. He knows this. He always could’ve fixed it, but he just never had it in him to care enough.
“Can you show me how I can fix this?” He hears himself asking innocently.
Jayce smiles merrily. “I’d love to.”
Plot: Viktor wants to spend time with Jayce, but has no idea how to approach that. So he pretends to know nothing about mechanics so that Jayce can explain it all to him. [SEQUEL TO ‘STUCK’]

Summary

“I appreciate everyone’s concerns. Truly,” though his eye seems on the verge of twitching. “But I’d like to just do it myself.”
Before anyone can say anything more, Jayce leaves the conversation, heading off to wherever he planned next. Viktor watches him until he disappears around the corner.
Mel gives Viktor this knowing look. Something must’ve shown on his face. “This is just something he needs to get through. That’s all. Perhaps distractions are exactly what he needs.”
Viktor could’ve told her that wasn’t true, but then he’d feel like he was unnecessary arguing. And it’s a bit cocky to tell her he knows Jayce better than she does. Though it’s true. He does. Well enough that he knows exactly what Jayce needs, and he’s denying himself this entirely.

He finally turns to look at Jayce, and he’s more startled by the sight of him than their situation.
Jayce has gone pale, and looks entirely in shock. He stares deeply into the dashboard, eyes wide and fearful. His hands held tight in his lap.
“Jayce,” he snaps his fingers in the man’s face. Jayce jumps at it, appearing disoriented as he finally looks at Viktor. “Are you listening?”
“What?” He sounds uncharacteristically small.
“I said we’re stuck,” Viktor explains.
PLOT: Viktor is forced to give his avoided colleague Jayce Talis a ride to their seminar. During a snowstorm. And then they get stuck in it together. Little does Viktor know the impact that’ll have.

Instead of sitting beside Viktor, he lays curled up on his side, his head pressed against the Zaunite’s thigh.
He hopes that everything they’ve been through is enough to be vulnerable. The truth is, in all his life he’s never been so touch starved as he is now.
Without speaking, Viktor puts a careful hand to his hair. Jayce leans into it with a tiresome sigh. He sees that response as permission to start massaging his scalp.
“I’m sorry too,” Jayce whispers, hearing himself sound small.
“I know you are,” he whispers back. “It’s alright.”

Eddie bites his lip hard, knowing his next words are more than risky. “Can I come see you?”
Maybe it was an excuse to get away from his marriage. Maybe it was an excuse to be with Richie. Maybe it was because he was genuinely worried about his friend.
