If you happen to have read another book about Edward Bear, you may remember that he lived with his friends in a wood called the Hundred Acre Wood. It was a small wood, and small things happened, the kind of things that happen to bears in places where even if elevenses are late there is always a little something for tea.
This isn't that story.

Amity had a lot on her plate. A role to fill, to prove her worth to her mentor and work her way into the Emperor’s Coven. Her task; capture the Owl Lady. This should have been a cinch… if it weren’t for her crazy state of the art home defence system. The Owl House was no joke… and why was her weird human pet thing constantly cheering her on from the sidelines?
AU where Amity is apprenticed to the Emperor’s Coven and didn’t meet Luz at Hexside.
Also just blatantly a Hooty fic.

Summary
“The making of language and mythology are related functions,” Tolkien said in his essay “A Secret Vice.” “Your language construction will breed a mythology” (Fauskanger). For him, this was literally true: he was a philologist at heart, and although only the most dedicated Tolkien devotees appreciate his invented languages to the same degree as his narratives, the stories existed so the languages would have a world in which to exist, not the other way around.

The Linguistic Situation of Third-Age Middle Earth by wonn
Fandoms: The Lord of the Rings - J. R. R. Tolkien

Summary
The Red Book of Westmarch makes it clear that Middle-Earth was a very linguistically diverse location; however, much of that diversity is not shown in the narrative itself, which portrays characters as speaking 'Westron' or 'the Common Speech' among each other. This seems difficult to believe given Middle-Earth as the book describes it, and is much more likely a device for narrative convenience rather than an accurate portrayal of the situation. This paper attempts to look beyond the conceit of Westron to discern what the linguistic situation in late Third Age Middle-Earth likely actually was, and what that can tell us about what might have actually happened when characters in the Red Book interacted with each other.
