Time travel was not on the syllabus at Cloud Recesses. Neither, apparently, was falling in love early.

The Yiling Patriarch is a living legend—a terrifying, ancient force of nature, dispensing punishment or reward with implacable, indifferent fairness.
Wei Wuxian, on the other hand, is a weird but oddly charming guy who wanders around the cultivation world making fun of people's art and mooching food from sect leaders.
It really upsets people to find out that they're the same person.

‘Alright, fine,’ huffs Wei Ying, blowing out his cheeks. He adjusts his grip on the smooth hilt of the sword, as cold as wet stone beneath his palm. ‘How do I give this back to you?’
‘I must trade with you something of equal worth,’ says the strange man.
‘Uh. Okay.’ Wei Ying rubs his forehead with his free hand. ‘How about your name? Your real name.’ In case he needs to file a police report or stalk this beautiful, scary man on google or something.
The man looks even more angry. He pulls his shoulders back and draws himself to his full height, which is rather impressive and forces Wei Ying to tip his chin up slightly.
‘My name is Lan Zhan,’ the man says.

Hanguang-Jun finds an array that will reverse time to the moment of the subject's birth, carrying back their spiritual cognition. However, no infant could sustain their full adult cognition. Most of the information would be lost. Wen Ning is the only person who could go back with his memory intact, as his cognition is already separated.
What would Wen Ning do to protect his friend, and his own family?
