“I…” Luz swallows hard, tears stinging in her eyes. She looks away, covering her eyes with her wrist as her chest constricts. It was hard to breathe. “I can’t be pregnant… I can’t…”
It was biologically impossible...
She wanted to drop to her knees and cry until her life slipped away. She was a human, her body couldn’t harbor magic, much less carry a magical child. Right?
A paper is set before her eyes. Through blurry, watery vision, she recognizes familiar black nails tracing over the surface in a pattern she could recite with her eyes closed.
“We’ll raise them together...”
