Whenever layoffs began in the Divination Commission, Qingque’s name would always be tossed around by her colleagues. But no matter how little Qingque did, Fu Xuan refused to let her go. If she was being honest with herself, she had come to enjoy the little games they played, the way she privately divined the way Qingque was going to slack off the next day with the full knowledge that Qingque was probably divining a way to escape her notice. She could pretend it was practice, but it was just fun, plain and simple.
This time, the game they’d played had been out in the open. Fu Xuan, though under the influence of a heliobus, had challenged Qingque to a battle of the minds. And Qingque, with Stelle and the rest, had won, proving that fate could be altered, the very thing Fu Xuan had wanted to prove to her mentor so many years ago. She’d never been so happy to lose.

There was something in Goro’s tone that brooked no opposition, but Makoto didn’t quite understand what he was saying. “I’m a lesbian?”
“Seriously Makoto?” Ann shrieked. “You’re literally dating Haru!”

He tries to explain his lack of want to Harrison one day. It’s very hard to disappoint me, he says. I’m ready for it. Because he is. It’s as if his emotions filter themselves according to logic, naturally sorting themselves in a way that ensures that he can be as rational as possible. He just doesn’t want things that are pointless or stupid or impractical. He can’t let his heart do as it wishes, letting it run wild and free like Harrison and the other Fluffers do. His heart is always chained to his mind.
But Harrison just shakes his head with a smile. I don’t believe you, he says. I don’t think it’s hard to disappoint you at all. His smile twists like sunlight, and then Drew feels it, a sharp pang in his chest, a stinging want, stronger than he’d thought possible. As soon as he feels it, he suppresses it, knotting it deep within himself. The podcast can’t continue if he’s acting like a fool.
In essence: Drew doesn't think he wants anything. Harrison shows him how he's been lying to himself.

Yosuke’s mind blanked. All of a sudden, it had become hard to breathe. His brain seemed to move on autopilot as he put his arm around Yu. “That’s amazing, partner! Dating the one and only Risette, huh? You must be psyched!”
Yu shrugged. “I haven’t decided if I want to date her yet. I wanted to ask you about it first.”
“Why, man?” Yosuke punched Yu lightly on the arm, still laughing that hollow laugh of his. “What, do you think I’d be jealous of you or something? Risette is asking you to be her boyfriend. What man would refuse that?”
Three years later...
Somehow, the train station is even more pathetic in the rain. Yosuke pretends not to notice the squelching mud beneath his boots or the unrelenting downpour as it bears down on him, making him feel drenched in spite of his umbrella. Instead, he tries to shape his lips into a smile, something toothy and carefree and familiar that Yu must still remember, even after all these years.

Or: Back then, Yosuke didn't have the courage to confess to his partner. Three years later, Yu and Rise are still going strong, and all Yosuke can do is suck it up and welcome them back to Inaba. Past tense for flashbacks.

Basically Akira and Goro each think that the other person is homophobic is the main thing. I will say that I’m a cis gay dude so this was absolutely not done out of homophobia? Yeah I think as a writer I acknowledged the risk but I took it anyway and didn’t think too much about it which is on me.
