Things have been good— besides some lingering regret over not killing Shroud and the careful consolidating of corporatizing Mecha Man with dispatch work, Robert’s been alright. Hell, he even bought a bed recently.
Things spiral pretty quickly when he’s a victim of some sort of bizarro mugging and gets turned into a cat. Surprisingly, it doesn’t even rank in the top ten worst experiences of his life.

SUPERB writing. the introspection?? the fluff???? the (yoghurt) character development??? the plot lines???? the pacing????? THE WATERBOY AND ROBERT ROBERTSON DYNAMICS?!? (cant believe that was an actual sentence i just wrote out)
listen. LISTEN. there are so many things to gush about this fic i just. i cant find a place to start. like 1st of all, i love, LOVE mutual pathetic pining. bro it's so rare but theyre both so down BAD for each other its disgusting. give me 20 more fics with this exact dynamic. plEASE.
also also, i appreciate that as much as there's fluff, there's also.... so much depth??? i ADORE the headcannon of waterboy's mind being too fast for his mouth to keep up with. thus the stuttering. and thus the practically un-stuttery (smooth??) way of talking when he's drunk because his mind's fogged up enough that his mind and mouth can actually be in sync. it's just. UGH, as the wise robert robertson the third says in this wonderful fic (verbatim): i have a thing for competent guys. so thank YOU author for keeping (making?) waterboy SO confident in this fic. as much as i adore seeing him being a shaking chihuahua about to fall over with the slightest breeze, it's so gratifying to read him just be... WOAH. (i was totally normal about the chair and vending machine scene with waterboy, what are you talking about).
also also, THE DEPTH?!?! these characters not only get to be disgustingly happy and in love iwth each other, they get to HELP each other be better versions of themselves too?!? like UGH, robert. robert my (2nd) boy. all his angst about his daddy issues and knowing what a happy family looks like but never *experiencing* it, only to be shown unabashed and unconditional affection from waterboy (i should rlly be more consistent about naming)??? and also robert showing and demonstrating to waterboy that he deserves to be loved not *despite* of his 'flaws' ('inconvenient' powers, it aches when i think about other ppl degrading him for something he can't control, JUSTICE FOR HERM) but because... he just is??? that his character, actions, and drive far outweigh how others perceive him, and his drive to just do good is so valuable and precious and good and he deserves to be loved, PERIOD???? AAAAAAA
honestly im not even touching on the whole robert robertson with the robertson legacy (heh), but it's almost 2am and i need to wake up early so i gotta sleep. this just. fic. good soup.
100/10, would definitely re-read for feels AND superb fic writing. you've outdone yourself, author. kudos to you <33

no i can't why is a fic about a lego man with a cool spinny spinny head trick this unironically good, i swear this is like in the upper crust of all the fics i've ever read in my life period
also i cried like almost every other chapter
also also why is this such a moving and interesting character study. ngl it made me like sit for 15 minutes and self reflect like excuse me, why does this fic captivate and hook me more than most novels i've read in my life
again i shall re-iterate: this fic is about a LEGO. MAN. WHY IS THIS CHARACTER SO MUCH MORE FLESHED OUT AND COMPLEX AND BEAUTIFULLY MORALLY GREY AND EXPRESSED SO ELOQUENTLY THAN SOME FICS/LITERALLY MOST NOVELS I'VE READ. IT'S UNFAIR HOW GOOD THIS IS.
