Summary
This is part of the Undercover Fic Exchange. My prompt was: Scully is assigned to go deep undercover, think Pine Bluff Varient, but Scully-style. Its a longterm assignment and M & S have to deal with their separation as well as the inherently dangerous aspects of Scully's case. I'm thinking something drug and organized crime related. Maybe domestic terrorism. Of course, there will probably be something happening that Scully might need Mulder's expertise in.
Story summary: Scully is re-assigned to a long-term undercover investigation into the disappearance of a sex-worker. As the investigation continues to unfold, things begin to take a dark turn. With more questions than answers, a body count rising, and a dwindling undercover team, the case forces Scully to answer one question: how far is she willing to go to get the answers she is so desperately looking for?

“Good morning, Sleeping Beauty,” Dustin snarks. He rolls his eyes and heaves himself out of the passenger side of the bimmer, slamming the door behind him. He sticks his head through the passenger window, offering Steve a sarcastic sneer. “Have a good nap?”
Steve smacks his lips and swallows hard, but the odd metallic taste doesn’t leave his mouth. Dustin huffs at his lack of response and smacks the flat of his palm against the side of the car. Usually, Steve would reprimand him for that, tell the kid something about the paint job, or dents, but Dustin storms out of Steve’s sight before he can catch up to the situation. Steve’s slumped over the steering wheel, letting it press into the side of his face and his ribs, a radiating ache, but he knows the moment he moves, the pain will flare into something sharp and unbearable.

Mulder expects an argument that doesn’t materialize. He wonders briefly where Scully — his Scully — has gone. The woman who’s shared his office for five years, who questions everything from his hunches, theories, and wild goose chases to Einstein's Twin Paradox. Maybe sex with her FBI partner is exempt from her exhaustive list of things that require rebuttals, the exception that proves the rule that every rule has an exception.
