    Summary

    Slurp started the zombie apocalypse.

Now, years later, Wednesday moved like a silent punctuation mark across the carcass of the world. Black boots. Black braids. Black blade. She had traded her cello for a machete, though she still hummed Vivaldi when decapitating zombies. Human colonies were the only imitation of civilization left, but they were built on fear, ruled by whomever held the most guns and the least conscience. Survivors were chaotic, loud, sentimental, and possessed an alarming talent for stepping directly into a creature’s open mouth. Zombies were, at least, predictable and reliable.

But Tyler Galpin—then and now—belonged to a category all his own.

    More monster than man.

And more slave than anything else, even after all these years.

    Summary

    "You'll live," Regulus says.

James just stares at him. Or tries to. Regulus is even softer without the clarity of his glasses. Less defined, even. All dark hair and pale skin and the faint, persistent shade of pink in his cheeks. His lashes look somehow darker, casting delicate shadows against skin that always seems too smooth to be real and that James always wants to touch. His mouth is gentler like this, the sharp lines of it blurred, curved slightly now in a way that seems almost shy. James can't look away, even if he can't really see him all that clearly.

    "I don't think I will," James whispers. "I can't see you."

    ---

James guides him through the halls. Regulus gives him crocheted flowers. James finally sees him.

    Summary

There is something both thrilling and intimate about watching someone when they think no one is around, seeing how they behave in the vacuum of other people’s perception.

Regulus momentarily sheds his poise when he wrestles with the ancient lock, tote bags precariously balanced on his shoulders and neat curls just beginning to frizz and frazzle in the humidity. He mutters something James is too far away to hear, but it is most certainly a curse.

    It’s oddly endearing.

James Potter offers to check on his best friend’s long-missing brother and gets a little too invested.
