Also I am not an expert on the Vatican or medical-type things, so please accept my apologies in advance for all the wild inaccuracies I am sure you are about to encounter. If everyone could just assume this is the Magical Made-Up Vatican, you know, like the religious institution version of those tour buses that drive themselves and don't carry anyone but the band, that would be awesome.

The door swings shut behind, and there’s a single beat of silence before Gilbert doubles over. “Holy fucking shit,” he manages between wet, gasping wheezes, “that uptight bitch has the biggest balls of any woman I’ve ever met.” Lucille elbows him hard in the gut, which only serves to make him laugh harder, before she slips back into the warmth of the pub.

Lost in the sea that is PTSD and guilt he's suddenly thrown into a hasty political marriage with Ludwig to save face. Neither of them are particularly interested at first, but together they begin to find the hope that will lead to their salvation.
There's tears, cuddles, nightmares, dogs, a chocolate cake or two, and one happy ending.
