Finally, Ilya exhaled hard, shoulders slumping just slightly as he turned around. “I don’t like sharing you.”
“I’m not shared,” Shane said softly. “You’re my boyfriend, he is my bestfriend.”
Ilya turned back, eyes still stormy. “I see the way he looks at you. Because he looks at you the same way I look at you.”
Shane’s mouth fell open, half grinning with amusement. Did Ilya really think Hayden was in love with him?
“Ilya, Hayden has a wife and four kids, what are you talking abo-”
“How could he not?!” Ilya cut him off. “You are perfect. Perfect son, perfect hockey player, perfect boyfriend, perfect friend!” He spits out, using air quotations to exaggerate the friend part.

Summary
A year after the events of The Long Game, Ilya wakes up alone in his apartment in Boston. It turns out he's in an alternate universe where Scott Hunter stopped playing hockey before his and Shane's careers even got started.
