“Xiaomao?” Gaoshun asks when she pushes back into the room. “Did you forget something?”
She presses her back against the door, heart stuck in her throat, legs weak. She opens her mouth to explain but no words come and she stares silently at Gaoshun.
“Xiaomao?”
A sharp pain pierces her chest. Her knees buckle and the room sways in front of her blurry vision.
