You forget, at times, that he isn’t meant to be here beside you. When the rosy red of his cheeks matches the giga-watt brightness of his smile, so vivid - so almost alive, as he is now. So far from the cold sack of bone and flesh sagging into the undergrowth, its thick blood still smeared onto your hands, gelatinous and boiling. You hold this reanimated image close like a talisman and pray it’ll keep that rotting one at bay. Hikaru turns, lazy, and you’re captured.
”Can we go to the arcade?” He asks brightly and - because you couldn’t refuse him for the world - you agree.
