Summary
Tony had been out of the country for weeks on SI business, and Peter was having a hard time. He missed him, plain and simple.
Okay. Maybe not so plain and simple.
Peter had a rough time in the weeks and months that followed the final defeat of Thanos in the ruins of the Compound. Thrust back into life, only to be forced to fight for the lives of the entire universe for the second time at only sixteen-years-old, and then to be told that his last living relative died in a crash during his five year absence did wonders for his psyche.
He developed a nasty form of separation anxiety toward his mentor-turned-adoptive-father -- not that Tony fared much better himself -- and his therapist had said it was a side effect of PTSD and that it would get better over time.
OR
A small field trip fic to SI where Tony has been out of the country for a few weeks, and Peter isn't handling it well.

Peter gets a sense from the second that he walks into school after a "sick day" (see: injuries after a bad patrol) that something isn't right. About 10 seconds later, that feeling is solidified when Ned tells him all about their Field Trip to Stark Industries in a few days. So yeah. Peter is pretty much screwed.

He's wary that between Flash's bullying, his school's adamancy that he's lying about his internship, and his dad's strange obsession with embarrassing him, it'll all go straight to hell.

Happy hated field trips - everyone in Security did. Field trips involved visitors to the Tower, visitors all over the Stark Industries part of the Tower, and no one in Security could understand why.
Pepper said it was to encourage youngsters to consider working for Stark Industries. Tony said it was so dorky little nerds could get a peep behind the curtain. Happy said it was to personally give him indigestion and Tony needed to admit it.

Summary
Tony flicks his gaze toward the group of students gawking and does a compulsory once-over. He doesn’t seem to be looking for Peter. Peter sinks deep in his hoodie and prays he blends in anyway.
Unfortunately, Tony catches his eye, does a double-take, and smiles. “Oh, hey!” he says as he walks over. Then, to Peter’s eternal mortification, Tony sticks one end of a piece of metal in his mouth so he has a free hand to ruffle Peter’s hair. With the piece still in his mouth and muffling his voice, he says, “Didn’t know you were here. I have to go talk with Dr. Karim in her lab right now, sorry I can’t stay and chat longer.”
Peter goes on a field trip, Tony doesn’t know, and FRIDAY wants revenge.

After realising Peter has been hibernating for the past week, Tony decides that he can stay home from school (home being Stark Tower, seeing as though May is on a work trip). It just so happens that during that week, Peter's school announces they are going on a field trip to Stark Industries.
And Peter has no idea.
Cue oblivious chaos, Harley Keener acting as Spider-Man's kryptonite, and the Footloose dance from the Umbrella Academy.

According to the law, no one is to leave the safety. Please, stay where you are, the threat is being taken care of. The building is in a lockdown for the time being.”
Right. The new law. In hopes of lowering casualties while the Avengers work, the new Accords included an alarm that immediately alerted all the public spaces, phones and accessible buildings about the threat. He felt his phone vibrate in his pocket as the warning blare shot, and with his hearing, he could faintly hear the signal blasting on the streets. Which meant one thing.
Superheroes were needed in the city, pronto.

Ultimately, this whole situation should be blamed on Tony. It was definitely his fault that Peter had suddenly found himself leading a tour of his own classmates on a trip through Stark Tower. A field trip that he himself had been banned from going on in the first place. But hey, it was one little tour and at least he'd finally be able to prove his internship was real. That was pretty much guaranteed to be the most dramatic thing to happen on this trip right?
