Summary
Like a snowy mountain top in spring the residents of the Burial Mounds trickled down the mountain and joined the flow of society.
“I went to the Burial Mounds,” Lan WangJi said.
“Ah, yeah… I’m sorry Lan Zhan,” replied Wei WuXian, “I hadn’t thought anyone would come to visit. I am still not sure how it happened; I brought A-Yuan to Yiling to play by the river and then ended up somehow teaching a bunch of children swimming and writing along with him.”

The Jiang have been nearly wiped off the map. Wei Wuxian has wrangled Wen Qing into agreeing to a desperate plan to restore Jiang Cheng's golden core. To accomplish this, he cooked up an absolutely ridiculous story about Baoshen Sanren that no one would believe besides his half-dead shidi, who would take any chance at this point.
No one told Baoshen Sanren she can't be on a random hillside in Yiling, however.

Summary
Sun Tzu said, "Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when you are weak." Wei WuXian had been one of the top ranked young masters of his generation. He was extremely well educated.
When the invasion came, resentful energy swirled and bodies fell like rain, and no one counted, no one pretended to care about the individuals. The final explosion that killed the Yiling Patriarch destroyed his body utterly, and with his destruction, the wards that had made the land habitable for the Wen remnants disappeared as well. Wei WuXian had been the only person to survive being cast into the burial mounds and he was the only reason that others had survived entering it as well. With his death, even his killers were forced to flee.
They retreated and celebrated their great success, and no one went back to the burial mounds.
"No one" in this case, included A-Yuan as a child and all of his relatives who had hidden in Yiling village for the duration of the invasion. "No one" included the Yiling Patriarch who had a mountain of corpses available to him, to create a battle and lose it utterly so that he would never be attacked again.

As the common-born ward of a merchant, he lacked the standing to find a wife among the gentry; and though he had liked the idea of a love match—where neither his rank nor that of his wife would matter very much, as long as Wei Wuxian could provide a comfortable home for them—no would-be beloved had ever materialized.
It was thus that he came to be unwed at the age of twenty-four, when one of his uncle’s old friends from court wrote to Lotus Pier to ask if Jiang Fengmian would be in favor of a ruzhui marriage with Wei Wuxian as the bridegroom.

This was so far beyond belief that Lan Xichen dismissed Huaisang’s report at once. But he wrote to Qin Su that evening, asking her if all was well; and though he visited the mail-office nearly every day during the week that followed, he received no reply.
In which something is rotten at the heart of Lanling, and Lan Xichen attempts—and fails—to discover what it might be.
