Summary
He had not looked at himself in years, not really. The water in the galleys showed only fragments: a distorted jaw, a shadow of eyes. He’d learned to know himself by other things: the ache in his wrists and ankles where the irons had bitten, the ever-present dull throb of hunger, the sound of his own heavy breathing in the dark.
He bent forward now, wary, as though the glass might break or bite. For a moment, he didn’t understand what he was looking at. And then he froze.
Or, Bishop Myriel gives Jean Valjean a bath and shows him what he looks like for the first time in nineteen years. Jean Valjean does not take it well.

Summary
Odysseus, while on Phaeacia, finds that he can barely eat anything without feeling sick or being reminded of the things he experienced on his journey. Frustrated at his inability to take care of himself in one of the most ordinary manners of a normal person, and still adjusting to the idea of being around people (after seven years of avoiding just that) again after being taken in by Alcinous, he resorts to desperate measures in an attempt to resolve his apparent problem.

Summary
He can’t help but hate and love them in equal measure, these children —these things, he reminds himself bitterly, that she created— and yet… there is something in them that reminds him of his boys, one long since gone to Hades, taken by Poseidon’s sea, and the other, he’d only ever seen the once before he left for war. If it were up to him, if he were totally in his right mind — and who could say that anymore? — he wouldn’t have named them, would’ve killed them the second she had turned her back. It would have been a mercy, perhaps, to slit their throats or smother them while they slept. They wouldn’t know the difference. Because they don’t even really exist.
He loves them and hates them, as much, if not more than, he loves and hates himself. Because all things being equal, these boys are, in some way, his children, too.
Or, while on Ogygia, Calypso makes “Not-Children” for Odysseus to care for.

Dollars Trilogy Liminal Entity AU by VanquishedHydra
Fandom High Plains Drifter(1973), Per un pugno di dollari | A Fistful of Dollars (1964)
09 May 2024
Summary
The Stranger, as he was known, didn’t have a given name or title. Some called them a ghost, others, a manifestation of God, the Devil, or Death. But he wasn’t any of those, not really, not necessarily a person, either, but rather, something in between. A liminal entity, a ghost of the desert that was here one moment, the next, gone.
Or, in which the Man with No Name from the “Dollars Trilogy”(1964-66) and the Stranger from “High Plains Drifter”(1973) are inherently the same person-like entity, by which they are not actually a person at all.
