Mira and Zoey don’t know this yet (they will, one day soon, they will), but Rumi died for the first time the Monday after her eleventh birthday.

Rumi inhaled, the rush of air filling her lungs, inflating that tiny balloon called hope trapped behind her ribs.
“I love you, Celine.”
The words tumbled out of her gracelessly, but so so sweetly. She waited, and all the while, that little balloon grew and grew, the plastic skin of it stretching and thinning with every second before—
“You too,” Celine said back.
‘Pop.’
“Celine,” Rumi tried again, voice shaking as tears she didn’t even know she still had left to shed began to drip down her left cheek. “Celine, I said I love you.”

Summary
Rumi sucks in a breath, releasing her shoulders to the best of her ability. She spreads her fingers wide in the carpet in front of her, claws extending before she sheepishly pulls them back. Mira and Zoey watch the display with an unreadable expression when Rumi eventually offers:
”So what do you want to know?”
Mira leans up with a lethal grace, her face inches from Rumi as she searches the half-demon’s gaze.
"I want to know how it was so easy for you to lie to us.”

Shame, it turns out, should not be hand fed. Rumi learns that the hard way when her patterns refuse to fade after the Honmoon is sealed. She thought fulfilling a ritual bigger than herself might finally make her lovable. Maybe even whole. But the aftermath is murkier than she expected.
Defeating Gwi-Ma should’ve been cause for celebration. And yet the girls who fought side by side can hardly look each other in the eye. Lies sit heavy, grief lingers, and nothing feels quite like it should. Follow Rumi, Mira, and Zoey as they try to piece together what’s left between them, even as something more demonic, more aching claws its way out from deep inside Rumi.

Jaeyi stood on the rooftop, the city below was a blur of lights, the weight of too many expectations suffocating her. She was ready to end it all—to jump, to escape the endless pressure that had become too much to bear.
As she moved to step forward, the door behind her slammed open. A girl walked straight to the edge, unaware of Jaeyi. Heart pounding, Jaeyi rushed toward her, desperate to stop her from making the same choice Jaeyi had almost made herself.
