[This is a rewrite of my fic of the same title published in 2023. The core plot is the same, but I have made adjustments to the timeline and chapter divisions, added and cut certain scenes, and diminished the roles of certain OCs]
Hassel was not a man of vows. He'd shied away from his family oaths, left their values in whetted shards behind him so that none might follow.
But here in this hospital in Levincia, bathed in white light, something stirred in him the likes of which he'd never known. Wings unfurled, lungs smoldered, and a great tail lashed.
"Brassius." Tears streamed from Hassel's eyes and gathered beneath his chin. "I shall keep you. I shall stand you by."---
Hassel, new to Paldea, secures himself a place to stay with a stranger named Brassius. After a turbulent first meeting at a hospital in Levincia, Hassel finds himself falling for his strange new roommate; meanwhile, he receives an offer from a friend in the music industry that seems too good to be true.

This series will be mostly explicit, sequential fics beginning between S4/S5 and going forward from there.
Each fic will be tagged with the respective ship it's focused on, so readers who prefer Hawk/Beej will have plenty to enjoy before the post-war pivot, but given that we're ultimately progressing toward a post-war quad, please note that Peg is, even when narratively minimally mentioned, a welcome background presence in BJ's life all along the way <3

“It feels so real, Hawk,” BJ mumbled.
“BJ?” Hawkeye said. BJ could see him lift his head. His hair stood up, making a funny shadow on the wall. “Did you say something? Are you dreaming?”
“I can’t tell. This feels just like the day we met,” BJ said.
“The day we—oh,” Hawkeye’s voice got thin and vulnerable. “Oh, BJ, it’s all going to be okay. Trust me. You know me, don’t you? You know I wouldn’t lie?”
(BJ and Hawkeye get stuck in a time loop.)

Try as he might, BJ can't fit perfectly back into his pre-Korea Mill Valley life the way he had hoped to. Neither, it turns out, can Peggy. When BJ isolates himself after their separation, Peg calls the one person she thinks might be able to get through to him. Naturally, Hawkeye jumps on the first flight to California.
BJ stepped forward and threw his arms around his best friend, burying his face in Hawkeye’s shirt where Hawk’s neck met his shoulders. The tightness in his chest began to ease for the first time in eight months, and his shoulders relaxed as they released tension he hadn’t realized he had been carrying. For the first time since he watched Hawkeye’s chopper take off months ago, he felt like he could breathe fully.
