Kaz had to admit the traffickers were surprisingly clever – for thick-skulled pirates, at least. He had not expected to be ambushed on the site of his future textile manufacture out of town. Or, well, what was supposed to be the site of his new project. Seeing as he’d been set up, it seemed he would need to find a new abandoned warehouse to repurpose. It was an annoying detail that would have to wait, however, since he was presently tied up to a chair.
Inej's enemies capture Kaz to lure her in a trap. It doesn't end well for them.

Peter learned a long time ago that he wasn’t going to be adopted.
He learned it when May and Ben sat him down and explained that they were just his uncle and aunt and he couldn’t call them his parents at school anymore. He learned it after the third family left the group home without him. He learned it after he was rejected time and time again for showing up with bruised cheeks and secret wounds that told people that he was a fighter and he could never say he was a crime fighter.
Peter Parker doesn’t need to be adopted. He has accepted that by now. He’s sixteen years old and knows that he only has two more years before he can be on his own. He’s looking forward to getting out of the system. He’s looking forward to being independent.

Jack stared at the body. At Macgyver’s body. A teardrop fell and formed a small clear circle amongst the dust and rubble. A sob rattled in Jack’s chest and broke its way out with a wounded, broken, keen.
“Dalton—“
Jack lifted his hand, pressing the end of Mac’s multitool against his forehead. The burning heat of it was painful, but he wanted to feel it. Wanted to feel every bit of the heat that had took Mac from him. The heat that should have taken him too. “He’s dead.”***
The Organization has been relentless in their attempts to kill Macgyver. During one such attempt, Mac makes a spur of the moment choice to fake his own death to keep his friends out of danger. This leaves his friends grappling with the loss, and gives himself the opportunity to help take out the Organization as an undercover agent.

Summary
He’s sinking back in, the mud refusing to relinquish its hold on him. A shudder runs up Mac’s spine as he drags himself out of the mud. Slowly, painfully, clawing at the earth trying to find a hold to use to free himself. Small roots and grass are ripped loose in his destructive wake of panic.
Finally, finally, Mac’s legs pull free from the mud and scrambles back from the unmarked grave.
The unmarked grave that almost became his.

Mac is no idiot, but he’ll admit freely that, occasionally, he can be somewhat slow on the uptake when it comes to the subtle underlying messages people try to tell him without actually – you know – telling him.
So, when Jack talks about the replacement he chose to watch Mac’s back for however long it’s going to take Jack to hunt down Kovacs, Mac doesn’t really get it. Jack talks about her like there is a joke Mac ought to be in on, but Mac doesn’t really connect her to her until-
Until she breaks into his house.
In retrospect, he probably should have expected this.

Her parents, Diane and Jack, are soon convinced that there’s more to Riley’s worries. Can the Dalton family help a lost and lonely teenager, whose life is nothing but a chain of insurmountable crisis, one worst than the other?
