Summary
Will swears, after the fact, that he didn’t know what he was going to do until he did it.
The kiss lasts barely a second, Will pulling away almost immediately as he initiated. Like a movie played in reverse, almost — with the same speed and force he had run into Mike’s arms, he is staggering out of them, the flush of relief and adrenaline replaced with a flush of shame, embarrassment, and the horrifying surety that he has ruined everything.

Summary
“You know,” Nancy says, cautious, “that you’ve always been the most important person to him.” Will scoffs. “No, I’m serious. He never shut up about you when we were kids, it was constant. He was obsessed!" She smiles, and he can tell she is glancing at him from the corner of her eye.
“And I know, I know things have been weird. Jonathan told me he pulled away from you. But, Will — he never took your drawings down. Any of them. He still talked about you. You were still — He's my little brother, and I love him. And I know it must be hard to trust him again, but I wish you would try. He still adores you. It’s just a part of him.”
Will shuts his eyes, hoping she isn’t looking as he starts to cry, silently as he was taught. He feels a hand squeeze his shoulder, gentle but present, real, and hears her finish: “Always was, always will be.”

Lucas looks a little hurt. "But you could have told us it happened?"
Will resists the urge to bang his head on the table. Probably wouldn't help his case.
"I mean, I couldn’t really— it was—" He looks at Mike, gives a tiny shrug and a head shake, something subtle enough to be not picked up on by the rest, hopefully. A hail-Mike. A please find a way to help me out of this lie.
And Mike Wheeler, he does know how to answer a call.
"It was me," Mike says.
Will gets caught up in a lie about not being a virgin. Mike decides to help out. This surely will not spiral.

Summary
It was only when his empty cup had been passed over to be put beside her discarded one did Will speak. “Someone asked me to dance.” Will said, his hands bunching the blanket tightly in his fists, “A girl.” He elaborated like that wasn’t a given.
“Oh,” Joyce kept her voice light and airy, “What did you say?”
“Yes,”
She’s not sure why that shocked her as much as it did but it did and Will noticed her hesitation.
“I mean, Mike gave me a look like I was supposed to say yes, so I said yes.” Will explained himself, despite having no cause too. It was normal for a boy of his age to dance with a girl. “And everyone else was dancing. Lucas with Max and El with Mike-“ His shoulders trembled more violently.
