Summary
He knew, reasonably, that his levels of pain and levels of exhaustion came and went in waves. He knew that it was more than likely that his energy would return sometime soon, and Scar would stop feeling as horrible as he did presently. He’d stop being so much of a burden, at least for a little while.
But he also knew that, someday, it wasn’t going to go away. Someday, it would get bad, and it wouldn’t get better again. It wouldn’t come with a warning. For all he knew, that someday was now. Even as it was, his best days from the past year were about the same level as some of his worst days from fifteen years ago.
What was he but a sinking ship— occasionally drifting back toward the surface but knowing that he would never again breach it. With each passing hour, day, week, month, and year, he was coming closer to where he would inevitably run out of oxygen on the sandy ocean floor.
But Cub’s hands were still in his hair, and that helped.

Summary
Bdubs knows he's a little different to most people. It's always been that way. Some would say he's dramatic, others say he's just very outward with his emotions, but either way he's different. Ever since he was little he's expressed himself differently to others, his emotions worn not only on his sleeve but bursting out of him in ways he can't control. He's used to it, he likes it really, because holding it all inside feels like too much is going on in his head and body, so letting it out is much easier to allow.

Summary
Technoblade was getting tired of this. When he’d first been arrested, he’d hoped his trial would happen quickly and they’d hurry along his execution, so he could get out of this cell and slaughter everyone within a mile radius. But apparently, bureaucracy waited for no man, and now Techno was approaching the end of his second week in this cell.
His daily meal was delivered via the small hatch in the door, so when the cell door clanged open suddenly, he knew something had changed.
Techno looked up lazily. “I hope you’re here for me,” he drawled, as two guards entered the room.
Unfortunately, that didn’t appear to be the case. They were dragging a third figure between them and as they entered, they tossed them to the floor of the cell.
Techno squinted at the new person incredulously. This had to be some kind of mistake.
A kid was hauling himself up to his knees, his arms buckling beneath him.
Techno's chat went wild.

“Look, Wilbur," Technoblade started. "I don’t know what kind of situation you pulled Tommy out of and, frankly, it’s none of my business. But Tommy seems happy here. Don’t do yourself the disservice of thinking that has nothing to do with you.”
Wilbur didn’t say anything. He and Tommy were alike in that way: Doubt was built into their bones.
“I couldn’t do what you’re doing, Wilbur. Most people probably couldn’t.”
“They could.” Wilbur sounded so certain. “For Tommy, they could.”
“But have they?”
That question seemed to take Wilbur out at the knees. “They should have,” he said fiercely.
“They should have,” Technoblade agreed. “But a lot of people have let Tommy down.” He squeezed the nape of Wilbur’s neck and the kid leaned into it, his head falling towards Technoblade’s shoulder. “They’ve let you down too.”
Wilbur was quiet.
“Tommy didn’t deserve it. I think we can both agree on that." Technoblade’s voice was soft above Wilbur’s head. "Can we agree on something else too?”
Wilbur hummed unsteadily.
“You didn’t deserve it either.”

Summary
In his new math class, Tommy was sat next to the tallest boy known to man.
“I’m Ranboo,” the kid said as soon as Tommy sat down. His voice was flat, but not unfriendly. “I’m autistic,” he said plainly. “And I have memory problems. I like it when people know that.”
For a second, all Tommy could do was blink. He’d never met anyone besides Technoblade that spoke so unashamedly of their autism. It was jarring.
“Oh,” Tommy said, a strange, squirming feeling in his stomach. “Okay.” How was Ranboo able to do that? How was he able to speak so confidently about the thing Tommy hated most about himself?
Already caught off guard by Ranboo’s declaration, instead of introducing himself like a normal fucking person, Tommy just opened his mouth and let the words tumble out.
“Why are you so tall?”

Summary
Technoblade was stalking across the warehouse towards him, looking angrier than Tommy had ever seen him.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Technoblade hissed. His broad, gloved hand closed around Tommy’s bicep and he yanked him roughly to his feet. Tommy was pliant as Technoblade manhandled him, feeling over his clothes for any sign of injury. “Jesus. Are you hurt?” the man demanded.
Tommy’s mouth was dry. His old fear had been replaced completely, overtaken by this new one.
“I— I’m okay,” he managed to stumble out. “I’m not hurt.”
Thick fingers caught his chin and lifted his head up. Technoblade looked furious, even as he continued to scan Tommy for injury. “Then maybe you’d like to explain just what the hell you were thinking?”
Or, Tommy's only been living with Technoblade, Phil, and Wilbur for a few months and so far, it's been going well. Then Tommy fucks up. Massively. It's a good thing Wilbur’s done this all before. It turns out, Tommy's not the first kid Technoblade and Phil have raised.

Phil first spotted the kid on a Tuesday. He couldn’t have been more than eight years old, dirty and skinny, skittering around the alley beside Phil and Technoblade’s brownstone like an underfed mouse.
It broke Phil's heart to see kids as young as this one sleeping on the streets. SBI was working to fix the Thirteenth District, but it wasn't happening fast enough to help this kid. So Phil decided to do something.
Resolved, he left a few granola bars and a water bottle near the entrance of the alley when he left the house that night. When he returned from a job in the early hours of the morning, they were gone.
“Oh, God,” Technoblade groaned, when Phil brought the kid up over dinner that night. “Please don’t tell me you have a new pet project.”
Phil laughed. “A little hypocritical of you, mate, considering you were my first pet project.”
Technoblade rolled his eyes. “Just don’t get too attached. Our job doesn’t exactly allow for kids.”
Or, how Wilbur met Phil and Technoblade all those years ago.

Summary
There was a kid in SBI’s territory.
On its own, that fact posed little problem. As the most powerful crime ring in the city, a single street kid was hardly a large enough issue to be on their radar.
But this was their territory. And SBI took care of their territory and all of the people in it. Since establishing themselves all those years ago, they had made it clear that they would provide protection to those their territory encompassed, especially the children. They set up shelters and kitchens for those on the streets, taking special care to secure safety for the kids who came to them for help.
Their territory may be considered rough to an outsider, but to those within, SBI were the guardian angels of the neighborhood. Deadly angels, perhaps, but angels all the same.
So the fact that— according to their informants— there was a kid out there, sleeping on the streets and refusing help from the shelters—
Well, it was concerning to say the least.

Summary
Wilbur was exhausted. It was raining and his throat hurt and with every step, Tommy was getting heavier in his arms. But he’d already made the kid walk so far today and in all honesty, Wilbur would rather deal with sore arms than a six year old’s tears of exhaustion.
Finally, Wilbur stumbled onto the street they tentatively— and illegally— called home. It was lined with identical townhouses, one of which was currently empty. They’d been squatting in it for nearly a month now. It wasn’t the safest place they’d ever slept, but when it came to insulating them from the winter chill, Wilbur would give it five stars on any hotel website.
Unfortunately, the window he climbed through was not the one they'd been using these past few weeks. This window belonged to the most terrifying man Wilbur had ever laid eyes on.
Or, while on the run, Wilbur and Tommy accidentally break into the wrong house. Technoblade finds them asleep in his living room. Family ensues.

Summary
Technoblade wasn’t the kind of teacher to get attached to his students. He was too busy for that sort of nonsense. Between teaching five classes a day— both sophomore and junior year English— and dealing with the emotional hell that came with teaching high schoolers, it was all he could do to remember the names of his students as they flooded in and out of his classroom each day.
Tommy and Wilbur were different.
Or, the life of English teacher Technoblade in which Wilbur's a good kid, Tommy needs help, and Technoblade is very tired. Thank God Philza Minecraft is no help at all.

They take the scenic route to the horse course, an attempt to avoid as many people as possible. It mostly works, as he only runs into Pearl and Gem, giggling together about some sort of scheme. They smile and wave in greeting, but are too busy to stop and chat. Perfect.
Bdubs is waiting when he gets there, hands flapping rapidly before he's even dismounted Giddy. He lets Bdubs talk himself out, rambling about all the things Etho's missed while he was busy pulling his hair out over the texture of the air, or something.

Beef regretted every life choice he’d ever made.
He woke up with a headache, one that distinctly told him that he had not slept nearly enough. Almost immediately after, Doc woke up still tiny, whined, and promptly puked all over him and Etho. This woke up Etho, who was also still regressed, and that was when Beef discovered that getting puked on twice in quick succession actually is much worse than getting puked on only once. It is not a logarithmic function, and is instead multiplicative. Fun.
AKA
Etho and Beef learn to ask for help, and have conversations that should have happened years ago. With a load of cuddles and hybrid instincts.

With every second he found himself unable to talk, it got harder to find his rhythm, the pace like he had before.
