The first time it happened, Hanzo thought nothing of it.
He knew about the soulmate songs of course- everyone did. He didn’t listen to music much, but Genji listened to the radio- and he was the one that noticed that the song that had just dropped from his favorite band was the same one Hanzo had been humming for days.
Genji KNOWS that his brother's One True Love has to be Jesse McCree, the voice and guitar behind Desperado. But Hanzo's going to take some convincing, and Genji's hardly going to wait around in the meantime.

He’d kind of thought that being raised in the Shimada clan would kill anyone’s desire to have a family, but facing being wrong about that was....surprisingly welcome.

Hanzo had vowed, in what could be the last weeks of his life, to be grateful for the small mercies. Volskaya was a miserable place, but they’d been here a week and everyone was at least a little sick, so if he coughed into a tissue and tossed the contents, no one was the wiser.

Summary
The… unfortunate, distracting feelings he harbors for one Jesse McCree seem to only be exacerbated the more time he spends around him. Perhaps the only hesitation he’d had with going on this mission was knowing that he was going to spend one, or possibly two, entire days with the other man in what was the most romantic setting and time of the year possible. A parade and a fair celebrating Valentine’s Day. Overkill, and overkill specifically designed to make looking at the cowboy difficult.
It doesn’t matter, he reminds himself firmly, it’s just a job. Just do your job.

Hanzo is assigned to a mission to supervise a Pro-Omnic/Human-Relationship Pride March during Valentine's Day. That isn't the hard part; it's spending the entire mission accompanied by the hat-tipping, spur-wearing object of his affection.

Trapped with very little chance of survival, Hanzo and Jesse take a risk that could lead to their survival against Reaper or it could lead to their deaths. Swords and arrows aren't the only mediums that the Shimada dragons can use to manifest, they can use bullets too.

Summary
Neither of the Shimada brothers have had a "brother" for a very long time, but when finally given a chance to try again, Genji is not going to let it go to waste. He's going to find the young man from his childhood from within the stoic man that his brother has become. On the other hand, Hanzo still does not feel like he deserves to have his brother back, at least not in a positive way.
When Genji comes to Hanzo looking for a bit of help, Hanzo for once doesn't refuse. Perhaps Genji can still fish their old playful banter from within his brother after all these years of Stoicism.

Pseudosomatic pain responses, the doctor says with an unhappy frown, like he’s giving some terminal diagnosis. Jesse and his mother just stare blankly, and so he continues, gesturing vaguely towards Jesse’s arm.
Empathic feedback.
Empathic feedback, Jesse parrots, words sounding misplaced coming out of his mouth.
Jesse has a soulmate somewhere— an empath partner, except only doctors and scientists and teachers call them that. They’re hurting, and so Jesse is hurting. Most empathic links don’t form until a lot further on in life; late teens, early twenties. Jesse doesn’t know anyone his age with a soulmate link already.
When there is significant physical or emotional trauma, the doctor says, looking between Jesse and his mother with dark eyes, the link can form early, as a defense mechanism. It’s involuntary. Someone gets injured in an accident, or suffers some sort of significant loss or abuse, and they reach out instinctively.
Jesse’s soulmate is in pain, and alone.

No one had ever sacrificed themselves for Hanzo.
He stared in wonder at the man who laid on the floor in front of him, freshly bandaged from a bullet wound that had been meant for him, surrounded by the warm, healing glow of whatever nano-technology came stocked with the ship. McCree looked peaceful. He looked almost angelic.
As soon as he had that thought, he felt his chest constrict as a cough made its way up his throat.
And when he pulled his hand away, he found a single, blood-red rose petal laying delicately in his palm.
