Alec Lightwood is an extremely competent Institute Head. He's been leading the New York Institute for several years now and, quite frankly, no one has ever done it better. He's confident, self-assured, and wholly unapologetic about who he is at his core. Despite being a badass bossman, Alec is still completely unprepared to fall head-over-heels in love with the High Warlock of Brooklyn on a routine mission.
Jace Wayland wasn't expecting to find a cute mundane with a firey attitude capable of seeing through his glamour on a mission with his siblings, but, hey, he can improvise.
Magnus Bane is possibly, maybe, devastatingly enamored with the Head of the New York Institute. Perhaps.
Clary, it should be noted, has no idea what's going on.
