How often had he stared at the sky as a kid, as a young adult, and not noticed that constellation? He didn’t need its points to navigate, so his gaze had passed over it, cast it as insignificant. Now, it was like those stars were engraved in his soul, chiseled into his bones, branded into his skin. When Carol pointed it out, when she grinned up at him like he’d hung that damn constellation himself, it became him. He was Sagittarius.

Summary
“We need a safe word,” Buck says. “You know, to make things as clear as possible.”
“I feel like no works just fine,” Eddie says.
Buck lets out a breath, because, sure, it probably will, but he needs assurance here. He needs something straightforward, simple, maybe something easier than Eddie telling him no. Maybe something easier than Eddie saying it’s too much. He’s never been great at that. “Just, humor me, okay? Communication is key with stuff like this.”
Eddie’s laugh is soft, kind of incredulous, but he meets Buck’s eyes, and there’s a relenting fondness in them. “You think, what, you’re gonna be so good it’s gonna scramble my brain out of knowing how to say no?”
An answering laugh tumbles out of Buck, peppered with the exasperation at the back of his throat. “I think this is new for you, and I think you should have options.”

The space between them feels charged with static, like the second before the thunder finally rumbles.

The urge to cradle his face in his hands, and press kind words into his skin, is stronger than any ounce of annoyance he could ever muster for Buck.
He thinks it’s why he’s so miserable about it all. Buck deserves nothing but the best, and Eddie has never been the best.
He fucked up being a kid. Fucked up being an adult. Fucked up being a son, a brother, a husband, a dad. A friend.
