She had no doubt at this point that David was going to be the death of her. Indirectly or otherwise, she wasn't stupid enough to think she was making it to the other side of this thing with a pulse. No one back home had expected her to make it this long. She was in middle school the first time she understood what the adults in her life were talking about when they talked about her following in her mother's footsteps one day, and even if that wasn't true, when her body washed up on the beach, or a shark burped up her arm, everyone would think that she'd drowned herself. A fine last chapter to a story that should have ended a long time ago.

Something about the way Steve played, with the kind of stress free bliss that he never saw on Steve's face when he was feeling big. Steve even smelt different like this, softer, sweeter, and the way he sounded, especially when Eddie touched him intimately was altogether unique.

He shouldn’t care about the fact that he’s gotten used to Eddie spending a full hour getting ready, primping and priming, blasting heavy metal and simultaneously talking Steve’s ear off as he meticulously applies eyeliner and fluffs out his hair just right before he heads out with a wave on yet another of his seemingly endless dates. They used to spend Friday and Saturday nights mostly together–hanging out, watching movies, smoking joints–and it’s not even that that bugs him the most, losing a friend like that.
It’s that it was his idea in the first place.

They’d done everything on their things-to-do-if-they-live-through-this-shit checklist from all those months ago. Everything but the last thing. The least likely thing. The most important. Find a town. Find a home. A place of their own.
So when Steve’s motorcycle develops a mysterious sputter as they roll up to the city of Santa Carla; when it up and dies right in front of the large, loud, welcome sign, there’s a silent communication. A meeting of eyes. A tense waiting silence.
And as they pass, on foot, Billy chuckles, points to the words sprayed large and red on the back of the sign.
MURDER CAPITAL OF THE WORLD
“Yeah, Stevie,” Billy says, flicking his Zippo open and lighting the smoke he’s gonna be sharing with Steve in about two seconds whether he offers or not. “I’ve got a real good feeling about this one.”

Summary
The bouncer manhandles Billy out the bar doors and into the slap of cold nighttime. It was a good fight. Always good when he can fight back.
He’s still high on it when he walks into the convenience store for a pack of smokes, licking the slow ooze of blood off his split lower lip. That’s probably why he doesn’t notice Harrington one aisle over; why he near runs into him as he rounds a corner.
And honestly, he didn’t expect to be the one to jump when they met up again.
For a moment, Harrington’s eye that’s not a swollen mess is big and round and white around the brown iris and his pink lips part like he’s about to say something, start something. But he doesn’t. So Billy has to.
That's how it works.
Or: Forget summer, Season 3 starts when the fight at Byers house ends, fresh bruises and all, no break, and with new monsters, like 110% more Billy falling for Steve and 1645% less throwing away his character arc.

Summary
“Yellow sandals covered in sand.” It was all that Billy could see. “She was pretty.” Her laughter twinkled like windchimes, like the sound the sun would make if it made a sound when it was reflected by the water. “She was really pretty. And you…” He was crying. Why was he crying. “You were happy.”
Billy stood up, facing the monster. He failed in facing a monster before, and the one person who had given him warmth and love had died because of it. He wasn’t going to let that happen again.
So when it advanced against Eleven, Billy stopped it. Bare hands. He felt himself screaming but wasn’t sure of what. In the end, he could only stop it for a few moments before the pain came.
She was the last thing he saw before everything went black.

Billy woke up.
“You’re late.” Maxine threw his bag on his face, looking grumpy. “Neil’s starting to freak out.”
