Summary
The planet was supposed to be uninhabited.
Famous last words, Leonard thinks sourly, as he holds up Jim’s limp weight on one side, Lieutenant Chang on the other side.
Two aliens walk into their cell. “Leader?” one of them grunts, looking around at each of them.
Leonard makes a decision that later on he will have no explanation for. He looks down at Jim, utterly unconscious, and before he can think too much, or at all, he stands up.
“Captain Leonard McCoy, USS Enterprise. We mean you no harm, and if you let us return to our ship, we will leave your planet at once,” he says calmly.

Summary
The Enterprise transporter malfunctions, leaving Jim stranded on a planet where the population deny all knowledge of Starfleet. They keep him in hospital, in the hopes he will recover from his “delusions” of being a starship captain.
He’s forced to wait for his crew to rescue him, but in the meantime, the gorgeous, grumpy doctor in charge of “fixing” him catches his attention.

Shore leave used to be the worst part of Starfleet for Jim. It meant days or weeks, sometimes months, of mindless wandering planetside with nothing to do and nowhere to go. Just Jim and the sound of his own thoughts. Sometimes he'd go drinking. Sometimes he'd pick fights. Sometimes he'd find someone and lose himself for an hour or two. But he would always come back to himself, always be on his own again. Everyone else, it had seemed, had plans, and Jim hadn't wanted to be the guy who got dragged along out of pity or the captain who ruined his crew's downtime.
