Summary
They stay that way for a long time, Catra’s face tucked into Adora’s shoulder, Adora gently cradling Catra’s head. Adora is careful not to hug Catra too hard or make her feel restrained, anticipating the moment that Catra will start to pull away — but Catra doesn’t. She hangs on so tightly it hurts, her claws digging through Adora’s jacket and into her back, latching into her like she did when she was a kitten and didn’t know how much her claws could hurt. Adora tries not to wince, tries not to move a single muscle, worried that if she does the spell will break and Catra will struggle away, appalled at having shown weakness.
But Catra doesn’t let go. And so neither does Adora.

He doesn't say anything and lets the image of a girl burning as the chemicals around her suck the life out of everything and everyone rest in the back of his mind to pop up every time he closes his eyes.
"It was just a dream," he reasons, "Mom was cruel sometimes, but never anything like that. She wouldn't."
As he gazes out the window at a world he can still remember as cracked and broken and toxic and he can't help but wonder, "Would she?"
Thousands of miles away, a little girl with a tear-stained face and an upside-down gem stares dead ahead, refusing to move even a muscle.

24 year old Adora was supposed to the be a hot shot, supposed to be destined for nothing but success, but now her life is beginning to spiral. She’s working a terrible temp job in Upper Bright Moon till midnight only to get up at five in the morning working a shift in a cafe so her best friend’s dream doesn’t go under.
And then one night she finds herself as a passenger in Catra’s car.

Izuku Midoriya used to want to be a hero. It seems a distant dream, now, after everything that he's done—after everything that he's been made to do. But it's still there. It's a dim, flickering flame, burning lower by the day.
He doesn't have time to concern himself with that though, these days he's too focused on staying alive to think too much about what he can never have.
Then All Might takes a job teaching at UA, and the universe says hey you know what would be fun? What if we fucked Izuku over even more than we already have? and thus, Izuku ends up in the General Education class of UA with strict instructions to report everything he can, because, thank fucking no one, he just can't catch a goddamn break.
AKA Hisashi Midoriya is a member of one of the most notorious underground supervillain organizations, and Izuku is being forced to help them (even though, trust him, he'd really rather not). Too bad that they don't predict that Izuku's going to get adopted by half the faculty when they send him to spy on the prestigious hero academy.
