Hanzo hadn’t intended to intrude on anyone’s solitude. In truth, he’d only ventured out to explore Gibraltar, but as he climbed to his spot, he heard a soft strum of guitar strings floating through the cooling air.
The silhouette of a broad-shouldered man with a wide-brimmed hat came into view—Captain Cassidy, the man he’d briefly encountered in the morning meeting. Now, he sat cross-legged, leaning against the railing, cradling a guitar that gleamed faintly in the dying light. The tune he was playing was simple, almost melancholic, and for a moment, Hanzo found himself lingering just out of sight, watching.
During the meeting earlier, the strange American had been introduced to him as one of the most important members of the little team that is the new Overwatch. This man had served with Overwatch during its glory for a very long time. Hanzo couldn’t deny the authority Cassidy seemed to carry, owing to his years in a high-stakes spec-ops unit, a division that answered directly to one of the old commanders. This was a man who, on paper, commanded respect. Yet, looking at him, Hanzo struggled to reconcile that image with the person before him.

Eddie’s heart stopped. He breathed no more. He simply stopped functioning. He turned his eyes back to the road, where they should’ve been. “Where?” He sounded strangled.
Steve was still grinning like a maniac when he brought Eddie’s hand up to his lips. “Right…here.” He kissed the back of his hand, light as can be.
“Steve, I-”

Summary

Summary
The mall is destroyed. El’s lost her powers. Billy’s dead. So is Hopper. Steve is probably fucked up mentally for life, but what else is new? Steve has a pretty good thing going. He has kids to take care of, an awkward lesbian to advise. Max needs a big brother. Hawkins is his home, and Steve can’t just leave. Not while he’s still needed. He knows one day he won’t be. But for now, it’s enough.
Or: the Harringtons sell their house before the real estate market goes belly-up. Hawkins has been going downhill for years, anyway. His parents give Steve a choice: move with them and finally take that job at his dad’s company or get left behind. For Steve, it wasn’t much of a choice at all. He may not have a house anymore, but his BMW’s backseat has served as a bed plenty of times already. No one has to know. The party has enough problems to worry about.
