This year is no different - he’s got Tensei’s younger brother who is practically his pseudo-nephew, a foster kid with a mental quirk who outright refuses to speak during class, and somehow he pulled the short straw to receive Endeavor’s youngest son.
It quickly becomes apparent, however, that even these class highlights will not be the priority focus in avoiding disasters this year. They’re only a week in when the kid he placed in Seat 17 brutally attacks a classmate from 1B, landing the other kid in the hospital and refusing to provide any semblance of explanation to the staff.

Izuku flushed when he saw the photo Mei had sent. It wasn’t anything inappropriate but it felt… intimate. Her golden eyes were half-lidded with exhaustion and he lamented the fact that they weren’t open a little further - it would have been a great opportunity to examine them and guess at her quirk without rudely staring. She wore a long-suffering sleepy smile and a tank top - likely the one she'd worn under her uniform all day. Her pink hair spilled haphazardly over a rumpled pillowcase and Izuku wasn’t sure whether there seemed to be more hair than he remembered or whether it was just an illusion created by her supine position. The overall effect was that Izuku forgot to breathe for a moment as he took her in.

"I'm not lovesick," Shouta gritted out, shutting the door behind them and grabbing his desk chair to sit on instead of joining her.
"You're so painfully, obviously, lovesick," Nemuri retorted.
Shouta groaned. There was no way to get out of this without her either insisting he tell Oboro and Hizashi he was in love with them- which he wasn’t- or being honest.
"I'm not lovesick. I'm aroace."
OR: Shouta didn't realise he was demiromantic because he had never gotten close enough to anyone to develop a crush until Oboro and Hizashi, and thought his crush was normal best friend things
