    Summary

The man hovering over him leaned back, releasing Grian completely. Cold night air rushed in to fill the void.

“I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”

With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.

    This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.

“Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”

    - or -

Grian is a vet. After a chance encounter in the dead of night, during which he accidentally saves a villain from the brink of death, he suddenly finds himself entangled in a world beyond anything he could've ever imagined.

    Summary

The bassbeat drowned out conscious thought, and it took language with it. Grian couldn’t tell what people were saying. He could watch them, watch the colors play across cheeks and irises and the curves of strangers’ ears, their earrings, their weapons, but he couldn’t understand them. He was getting overwhelmed, and that was a bad thing. He’d worked too hard to get overwhelmed at concerts anymore.

The Watcher was up in the rafters, huddled in a corner above the sweeping lights. Grian could see him if he squinted, a darker speck of shadow in the dazzled-out gray of the venue’s high roof, but no one else would be looking. They’d go about their concert and the rest of their nights like nothing had happened, the side effects safely dispersed over a crowd of three thousand, and the Watcher would come out healthier. His cheeks would fill out a little.

He’d look more like Grian, and Grian--

Grian would look more like him.

    Summary

The living Danny—maybe playing along, or maybe responding genuinely—raised both hands in a show of harmlessness. Like Lancer truly had him at gunpoint.

Danny Fenton’s wet cold dead body was so heavy in Lancer’s single cradling arm.

“Who are you?” Lancer asked very simply.

And Danny, arms still raised high, let out a sigh deep enough to deflate his shoulders. Whatever light was in his eyes went dull, resigned to an acceptance Lancer could not in the moment understand.

“I am your worst student,” Danny answered. And he lowered one arm exclusively to point. “And THAT is the dead body of my ghost clone.”

    -------

Alone on the farthest outskirts of Amity Park, Danny Fenton and Edward Lancer bury the dead body of Danny's clone. It is long and tedious work, and Danny can't dodge Lancer's questions forever. Surely it's only fair of Lancer to demand to know what he has been pulled into. Surely Danny could use someone on his side, now that his evenings are spent burying his clones.

    Summary

“Stop telling the universe I’m dead!” Grian shouted, and lightning shot through Mumbo’s brain, juddering between his ribs like a high-voltage traveling arc and grounding in his molars. He choked, muscles convulsing, skin feeling– feeling tight, and thin and not really there, and then the sensation passed and he could move again, enough to push himself upright.

His hooves had split into hard, keratinous fingers. He stared at them, ears ringing, and Grian said, sounding like he spoke through gritted teeth, “I’m not dead. I’m going to respawn, because this isn’t the weirdest thing that’s happened to us and it’s all going according to plan. Repeat that after me, please."

Mumbo sniffled and said obediently, “This is all going exactly as I planned."
