Enji was used to this by now, but seeing the metal tub filled with ice water still filled him with dread.
Enji knows what the punishment for using his quirk is, but his determination to be the hero his father couldn't be pushes him onward to keep training. Immersed in the ice water, being berated by his mother, he retreats further and further into his mind.

Through trial and error and realising that maybe he’s just a bit different, they manage to get through the communication barrier together. – I myself am autistic, and while I don’t think I’ve ever been non verbal, a lot of this was taken from my childhood experience. take from that what you will.
