Summary
Logically, there was a before. He understands that. There was a person he had been, before Gwi-ma. He remembers bits and pieces of him, like little wisps of smoke. Unhappy things, like frantic, screaming voices, and echoes of a nameless pain. The things Gwi-ma allowed him to remember, the shame that kept him obedient and useful in the endless agony of the Underworld.
A shell. A shadow of a boy he didn’t remember. He’d accepted that he’d never be anything else. That he’d never deserve to be anything else.
He’d never, ever, imagined there would be an after. Never let himself hold on to such a reckless, foolish hope.
But here he was, waking in the after.

Taking care of each other became routine, comfort as soothing to give as it was to receive. And yet, it always came as a surprise when Abby was the one to fall. He was always the strong one, and even though they knew he was in pain, months, sometimes years of toughing it out dulled the memory. Sometimes it was easy to forget his patterns burned just as cruelly as the rest of them.
Sometimes it even caught Abby off guard, the realization that he had reached his limit. He knew he wasn’t strong enough to hold on forever—Gwi-Ma made sure he knew that, in fact—but so often the shame of weakness, of needing help, kept him pushing himself longer than necessary, that he forgot he could not do so forever.

"Shall I play something for you?"
The chirp he got in response seemed confirmation enough. Jinu's hands hovered over the strings, eyes never leaving the creature looming at his feet.
As the melody began to fill the stale air, the tiger's tail thumped softly on the ground, its eyes meeting Jinu's. They held there for a moment, music dancing between them, before glancing down to the bipa and back up to his face. A languid blink. A low rumble. Expectant—waiting.
The corner of Jinu's lips twitched.
"As you wish."
With a deep breath, his voice joined the song.

“Okay.” He whispers, quiet but meaning it when he says, “I want this. I want to deserve your trust. I want to stay.”
Jinu feels it before he sees it. The change in the air, the way the Honmoon pulses beneath his feet. His eyes crack open just in time to see its strings wrap around him. Not constricting or planning to pull him down but— cradling. Like a safety net. It shimmers but it’s not just blue. It’s a multitude of colors— rainbow and iridescent. It’s brief, gone in seconds, but Jinu can still feel it. The safety of it, preventing him from falling or getting pulled down into the depths of the demon realm.
His head is reeling. Both he and Rumi are panting in the aftermath. It’s for these reasons that Jinu allows himself some grace for how long it takes for him to once again notice the silence— the absence.
Gwi-Ma is gone. The quiet has returned.
(Or Rumi helps Jinu escape Gwi-Ma’s wrath a little more permanently after their duet, causing him to be freed from his control but also making things complicated. This also leads to Rumi willingly revealing her patterns and a team up between Huntrix and the Saja Boys. Turns out saving one soul can lead to saving a lot more.)

“Ah,” says Zoey. She shuffles her notebooks into a pile she can pull to her chest, and spits her pen out onto the floor somewhere behind her. That’s a later problem. “You think it’s intervention time?”
“I think it’s at least not leave-her-by-herself time.” When Mira passed Rumi’s door earlier, she swears on her life she heard her talking, and she’s not letting that slide again, not after last time. Friends don’t let friends talk to the air. Or let friends talk to inanimate spirit swords that could possibly contain the soul of a 400-year-old demon. It’s not exactly in the girl code, but Mira’s always run more on intuition and street-smarts than the playbook.
Zoey nods, brow knitted. “On it. That girl needs boba and to watch Boys Over Flowers.”
“Again,” Mira agrees. “C’mon.”

“Stop that.” Zoey almost yelps when suddenly, Baby is there, crouching not far from her, arms resting loosely on his knees. He doesn’t look like he did when they fought. His claws aren’t as long or sharp looking and there’s no calculating precision to be found in his eyes.
His eyes… His pupils are round for some reason. Most demons like him have slitted ones, why is he different?
“Stop thinking so hard and just breathe for a moment.” He continues. His gaze only briefly flickers to the remaining blade in her hand and back. “If I wanted to hurt you, I would’ve done it while you were still unconscious. But I didn’t. Believe it or not, it benefits me to keep you alive.”
(Or after killing Baby in the final battle, Zoey is struck with a sudden, terrible pain and soon falls into the demon realm. There she finds Baby, back from the dead and strangely determined to keep her alive, and in her current state, Zoey needs all the help she can get to stay alive.
Meanwhile Baby has figured out what Zoey is too sick to realize: they’re Soulmates. It brings up a lot of complicated feelings.)

Summary
The aftermath of the Idol Awards leaves Rumi exhausted, but her sorrow over losing Jinu is short-lived when she discovers not all of him is gone.
Rumi has many heart-to-hearts with her friends, gets her demon not-yet-boyfriend back, and starts discovering all the new powers she has due to being half demon and half hunter. But she’s not the only one changing.
Mira and Zoey get used to the new normal with a new Honmoon and what it all means for them as hunters, as well as the new face among them. Jinu seeks to redeem himself in their eyes but the weight of guilt due to his actions is not an easy hurdle to jump.
Their well deserved rest will not last forever. Between the demons stuck on this side of the Honmoon and those trapped on the other, including those Jinu cares about, they must decide what course of action they want to take and deal with whatever consequences it brings.
Gwi-Ma might’ve been banished to the other side of the new Honmoon but he is not one to go down quietly.
(Or in the aftermath of Gwi-Ma’s defeat, Rumi discovers that Jinu’s soul, albeit weak, is still sticking around. She keeps what remains of him safe, causing a ripple effect that will change things for the better.)
