“You… want to vanish my pyjama bottoms?” Hermione croaked. Her eyebrows were so high they were almost lost to the towel that she had twisted around her mane of sopping curls.
“I…” Draco cleared his throat again, noting that it was unusually dry. “In the name of evil."
Placing her cup on the table, Hermione stood and sauntered leisurely towards him. “Oh, evil wants to vanish my pyjama bottoms?” she questioned, the melody of her unexpectedly sultry voice infiltrating Draco’s mind through his reddening ears. “Is evil just trying to get me naked?”
He flushed. And gulped.
Fuck.
“Evil wouldn’t mind that,” he choked out.
“Well,” Hermione purred, closing the last of the gap between them, “evil could just ask nicely.”
Draco was breathing so heavily that he was surprised he could hear Hermione speak over the unseemly wheezing. Still, he managed to force his tongue to cooperate with words. “That’s not really how evil does things.”
“Oh? And what would evil do instead?”

“Is it? I feel like I just… began,” she admitted with a laugh. “But it smells right.”
“When you’re busy up here”—he tapped lightly at her temple—“time doesn’t stand a chance.”
She arched an eyebrow, fighting back a smile. “If focus could bend temporal mechanics, arithmancers would be immortal.”
“Only the clever ones who survive the paradox cascade. You’d navigate it flawlessly, of course.”
The cream had formed perfect peaks, but Hermione barely noticed. Her whisk hovered mid-air, eyes wide. Something hot and electric shot through her chest as his words sank in.
