The bugs had always struck Fresh as stupid; witless beings unable to tell the moon from a light-bulb, killing themselves in pursuit of home. Was this how the moths felt? The thought came unbidden.
Color awkwardly pet its back a few more times, mumbling to himself. “How didn’t I notice this.”

Kind of angsty kind of gruesome, but I wanted content of Killer being real in their head about everything.
Just in a real dark place. Not thinking straight. So detached yet so aware of everything. Just... broken.
And then next thing they know, they're holding the lifeless body of their bunny in their arms.
No one else is around. They hid themself away, not wanting to bother the others or hurt them. So it couldn't have been anyone else but them who did this.

That day had been one of those more hectic ones.
Nightmare had appeared sitting at one of his tables with that one guy with no eye lights who always cried black tar a good thirty minutes before Ccino would have usually opened the doors to his cafe, just so nobody outside could miss their presence and rumors would spread. He had only left two hours after closing time.
One hour after that, it was midnight already, and he’d only just finished cleaning up, shutting down all the machines, and closing the shop. All he had left to do was bring out the trash and check on the two strays he’d spotted out back recently. They hadn’t let him approach them quite yet, but they had started to feed from the food he left out for them on paper plates (when he could spare those) or cans. It was a small step, but a good one.
Imagine his surprise when, as he went to dump two huge trash bags in the dumpster out back, he found the henchman who had accompanied the god that day asleep with their back against it and the two skittish strays cuddled up on their lap, purring up a storm.

Summary
Stage Two wasn't the type to get insecure; that's what they told themselves. Stage One concerned himself enough with that crap for all of them combined. So, it goes without saying that, when they whispered: "You prefer spending time with the others, don't you?" in a voice so soft, uncertain, and quiet that Color almost missed it, they hadn't meant it as an admission of their weakness, but as a statement of fact.
Stage Two knew that, among all of them, they were the most unpredictable, the least trustworthy, and the least capable of emoting. They were exactly what Chara and Nightmare had wanted them to be. A weapon ready to be wielded. A tool well attuned to all of their needs and desires. A clever little bastard with flexible morals and no real attachments, perfect to be kept as a pet.
But Color wasn't either of them.
He was soft and kind. He didn't need a weapon, a tool, a self-sufficient pet… he needed a friend. And Two wasn't built for friendship. They had none of One’s warmth, of Three’s vicious protectiveness, or of Four’s… whatever that guy had going for it.

“So,” Epic suggested, “let’s play a game.”
“What kind of game?”
“Of wit and charm.”
Intriguing. Nightmare perked up. “Oh?”
“Whoever can accurately glimpse into and freak the mind of the other wins.”
“Hm.” Nightmare mulls it over. He won’t admit it aloud, but Epic can tell by the gleam in his eyelight and the tiny wags of his tentacles that he’s intrigued. Aloud, he inquires, “The guerdons?”
Epic set his cup down. “If I win,” his smile fell, and the glacial fury of Epic’s agitated LV simmered and burned delightfully when Nightmare absorbed it. “You stay away from Killer. No contact, no reaching out through a third party, nothing.”
Before Nightmare could speak, Epic persisted. “And that includes alternate timelines.”
Nightmare continued to smirk, unaffected.
“Yeah, I know about them, and you’re not putting Killer through that shit.” Epic’s voice is as cold as verglas when he intones, “Any version of him.”
How droll. “Is that all?” Nightmare gave an unimpressed quirk of his brow. “I have no use for a traitor. What,” he taunted, “are your other companions not nearly as important?”
“It goes without saying you stay away from them. All of them.”

It pushed its head against his frozen palm, letting out a whine. It tried to look pathetic before remembering Color’s didn't like it whimpering. It- it couldn’t really do something else though, too deep in the act; if it changed now it would be obviously fake. Maybe this time it would actually work?
Color’s face went blank for a soul-stopping moment, before he started petting its forehead again, “Sorry, sorry. Just lost in thought.”
