Summary
Sometimes Steve misses his hair. It had always felt like armor. If he had good hair to compliment his good looks, he was unstoppable.
Then he impulsively shaved it off during a particularly bad mental breakdown several months ago.
The breakdowns had started near the beginning of the year, his nightmares of the Upside Down returning full force after his bed once again cradled only him. Nightmares that kept him from sleeping, leaving him exhausted and irritated. He began speaking only when required and going almost nowhere besides work and sometimes the store when he absolutely had to. Robin called him agoraphobic, but Steve knew it wasn’t quite that.
And it had everything to do with Theodore fucking Munson.
Or: A year ago, Steve and Eddie were happily in love. A year ago, they had just said "I love you." A year ago, Eddie cheated and they broke up. A year ago, Eddie moved away and Steve tried to rebuild his life. In the year following, Steve does everything he can to forget Eddie, until Eddie comes back to Hawkins and everything shatters.

Summary
Steve skidded to a stop and prepared to get bowled over. Just as he was about to swing, a much darker, growling blur leapt out of nowhere and started going to town on the dog...thing.
Oh shit, that was an actual dog rolling around and holding off the demo-babies.
His furry rescuer yelped and fell backwards onto its ass when the demon dog managed to swipe at it with its claws, but Steve followed up by landing enough of a blow that it stayed down. More weird, not-quite-right, creepy howls came from the fog.
“Looks like they brought backup. Come on!”
Steve pointed to the bus and hoped the dog would follow instead of trying to go out in a blaze of glory.
Or, a S2 AU, if Eddie was a werewolf.

"You tired of commitment?" Eddie asked, but what he really thought was that Steve must still be hung up on her. Nancy Wheeler.
"All I've ever wanted is commitment," Steve answered, and the seriousness in his tone felt like a bucket of cold water. This was a soft spot, a sensitive topic. Eddie hadn't meant to push at Steve’s buttons, not for real.
He pushed at Steve's knee again, a cautious attempt at comfort, then leaned back on the couch.
"We don't always get what we want, I suppose." And wasn't that just a little too close to home?
"Sometimes we do, though."
Or: When Steve's short on cash for weed, Eddie comes up with a trade.

Steve takes a basketball straight to the side of his head just before he planned to leave a note in Nancy’s locker saying to meet him in the girls bathroom. He’s a bit disoriented but he thinks he got the right locker. Or at least he does until a very confused Eddie Munson shows up instead.
