Peter wasn’t typically one for crowded places. It wasn’t that he didn’t like people, people were great, it was the sound, smell, and heat that so many bodies in one place created. And, no matter how physically affectionate Peter was, and he was very physically affectionate (it was something his friends accepted readily; even going out of their ways to give him countless hugs and hold his hand), he could never grow to be okay with how uncomfortably close strangers often got.
Overall, Peter didn’t like crowded places. But it didn’t matter because here he was, anxiously running his hand along his pants in the middle of a business gala.

Peter really doesn't like crowds and has a sensory overload at an event for Stark Industries and Oscorp. Harry helps him out. -

“Nah. I was just messing with him. Wouldn’t want to teach my kid anything… Childish.” Iron Man winked.
“... Mr. Stark? Do you think I could keep this money?”

He's also just been placed with a new family. Tommy knows how this goes, he never ends up staying long. After all, no one wants a fuck up like him.

Summary
James Potter often lamented his soulmate mark. His best friends had the perfect marks, resulting in a picture perfect romance. It wasn't as if he intended to insult his soulmate, but the words inked upon his collarbone did not inspire confidence that their first meeting would go well.
