Summary
Wishes gave people something to hold onto; they were full of hope and promise, a shining light people had to cling onto no matter how desperate things got. People whispered them at the loud holiday parties or shouted them out loud in the comfort of homes or didn't dare to speak the words and instead kept them safe inside their minds.
But, when people made their new year's wishes, it usually wasn't a deity of hope or happiness that stood there. Because the thing about wishes is that they almost always stem from fear.
The Fear General always works on New Year's Eve.

Chris watched the final drops of coffee pour into his mug, the sacred liquid finally ready to be consumed. He gratefully wrapped his hands around the mug and took a long sip, monitoring the food on the pans in silence. For him, there was still a simple joy in this symphony, in this daily dance, even if many others did not feel the same anymore. Despite the lingering thought of being forgotten, despite the crushing weight of not having any, the mornings were still his, or at least, he wanted them to be.
When overtaken by fear regarding the state of breakfast, Christopher Breakfast is visited by the one person who would notice his altered state: the Fear General.

Miles Edgeworth’s car was difficult to miss. The sleek sports car was a loud, flashy red clear of any bumper stickers or adornments, and it never had a scratch. After seeing it so often before and after trials, and of course, after analyzing it closely for Lana’s case, Phoenix would recognize that car anywhere.
Or, at least he thought he would. For the rest of that month, each bike ride to the Wright & Co. Law Offices brought a chill greater than the final gusts of the dying winter with every red blur that passed by on the street.
Phoenix was always certain it was his car. It must have been.
It never was.
After reading that note, Phoenix can’t help but look for red on every street. Every glance only brings pain, until he finds what he’s looking for. Now that hurts. Literally.

His eyes flick down to his note cards. He swears he’d printed them in his best penmanship, atop one of the library's extra premium desks, but everything is spinning and he feels faintly like he's going to throw up. "Did you uh," he starts, letters swirling in his eyes. "Did...you fall out of heaven...?"
Genius prosecutor-in-training Miles Edgeworth regards him with a blank stare. Phoenix thinks now would be an opportune time for him to locate the nearest possible bridge and promptly jump off of it.

With a heavy sigh, Kaveh buried his face in his pillow. All of his romantic ideals, as usual, were quashed by the one man he actually yearned for such affections from - a marriage for the sake of fucking tax deductions.
Though it made sense in a cold, rational way, such a logical and disinterested proposal for Kaveh to willingly sacrifice his heart for nothing more than mora cut deep into his chest. And worst of all... Alhaitham was unaware that Kaveh’s heart could never even belong to anyone but him - that he was already the sole benefactor of Kaveh’s silent longing, having stolen Kaveh’s heart against his will long ago.
Kaveh curled around his pillow as if the soft cotton of his pillowcase could offer a reprieve from the turmoil churning deep in his stomach. He’d long since made peace with his unrequited love for Alhaitham, resigning himself to a lifetime of suppressed yearning - but this? This was torture, plain and simple, demanding mental gymnastics that Kaveh wasn’t confident he was flexible enough to contort himself into.

i don't even GO HERE i've never played one second of Genshin Impact in my LIFE but sometimes the fanfic chooses you I guess. Sososo many incredible lines in this, even if I don't exactly know the full context. I can't pick a favorite line but "I trust you with my life." "Then trust me with your heart, too." makes me especially crazy. I do not know what Kaveh being a light (officially I guess??) means but I'm glad he's Alhaitham's light <3.

He kissed him again, and again, and as Phoenix moved to lay on top of him Miles felt his vision blur— he wasn’t sure if it was because Phoenix took his glasses away (did he? When? Did he even had them on? He couldn’t remember) or something else, but then it hit him.
Ah he thought to himself maybe it feels like this
“Wright…” he sighed against his lover's mouth as he felt hands sneaking below his pajamas. “Phoenix—“
Ah he thought to himself again. Maybe he understood a bit better now.
Miles Edgeworth has never understood the idea of getting “drunk on kisses”. It was not something that happened, it was not, technically and literally speaking, possible.
That was until he started dating Phoenix Wright
Or Five times Miles denied being drunk (on kisses) and one time where he couldn’t anymore.
