To let it whatever it was go and give their boss space. At the time, it had seemed best. Every time Jesper thought he had seen a bit of something more from Kaz, a genuine smile that lit up his eyes and made him look real, those jaws would snap shut and Kaz would be unreachable again. It was like Brekker was one of those damned hermit crabs that wandered up and down the docks, determined to tuck themselves in their hard shells at the first sign of someone getting close. Jesper didn’t want to lose the bit of Kaz they had coaxed out so far, not when it felt like such a gift to have it. He had wanted to stop pestering and let Kaz come to them instead, and because of that he may have signed the poor guy’s death warrant."

“Hello, ladies, am I interrupting something?” Kaz asks, grinning. Inej feels her stomach drop, she knows that grin, it’s the same one Kaz does whenever he’s successfully gotten away with something.
Saints, Kaz, what have you done now? Inej thinks, getting her answer when her gaze flicks down from Kaz’s face to his torso.
Inej can’t help the noise of surprise that escapes her and the other two women must notice as well because Heleen’s jaw drops, her face turning red with indignation while Nina swears beside her.
Because in front of them was Kaz Brekker in a crop top.
