Magnus refuses to simply sit back and do nothing while his boyfriend is hunted by every Downworld assassin on the Eastern Seaboard. "If we can't destroy the contract on Alec's life, then we find the person who took it out. Kill them."
"That's not an option," Madzie shakes her head. "Trust me."
"No," Jace growls, "I think it's totally an option."
Jace barely knows Madzie, and Magnus knows little of this grown version of the child he loves, but he does know Catarina. Madzie has the same evasive look her mother adopts when she doesn't want to tell him something.
"You know who took out the contract," he surmises. Madzie nods, miserable. "Who?"
The look in her eyes is both heartbroken and hurt. "You did."

They were attacking mundanes in Soho.” Magnus can’t help the extra once over he gives Alec, double-checking to be certain he’s not hiding an injury. “We moved in to engage, traded a few blows, and then…” Alec rubs the back of his neck awkwardly. “One of them got a better look at me, I guess? They broke formation and backed off.”
“Demons?’ Cat asks, incredulous.
Alec nods. “Yeah. They, uh. They apologized. To me. For the inconvenience.” There’s a bewildered look in his eyes that makes it clear he has no idea what to make of this.

They’ve been married a little over a month when Alec brings it up.
He noticed before that, obviously. It’s hard not to--Magnus draws his eye whenever they’re in the same room, all the more when that room is their bedroom and Magnus isn’t dressed yet. He’s watched Magnus in their closet in the mornings, trailing his fingers over jewel-toned silk shirts and tunics before slipping on something dark and structured, watched him change his nail color by magic from violet to red to silver before settling on black, watched him snap his fingers to take the fine layer of dust off the eyeshadow palettes and glitters on his vanity even as he magics on his usual simple black eyeliner.
(or: Magnus doesn't wear color and light like he used to. Alec's pretty sure he knows why, and he's determined to fix it.)

It starts during their first fuck after “The Incident” as Magnus was calling it now. Alec had been hovering over him, effectively turning Magnus’ brain into mush when it happened. It wasn’t the sentence that Alec uttered out in the midst of the heat, but the way he looked at Magnus.

Zemo era un omega, pero un omega demasiado viejo que nunca había sido muy fértil ni en la flor de la juventud debido a las condiciones congénitas de la nobleza, tanto que él y su esposa alfa habían tenido que recurrir a costosos tratamientos para concebir y no habían tenido nada más que un hijo. Sonaba como una historia muy triste, pero le permitía pasar como un simple beta debido a lo muy poco frecuentes que eran sus celos y hacía pasar la sutileza de sus feromonas por finos perfumes, encanto y clase. La única parte difícil era lidiar con los deseos de dejarse morir después de perder a su alfa y su cachorro, pero se las ingeniaba para canalizar el dolor en deseos de ver a cada uno de los culpables destruidos; hacía un muy buen trabajo con esa última parte.
Rara vez Zemo tenía que dedicar el pensar dos veces una idea moralmente cuestionable, pero esta idea en particular estaba fuera de toda categoría desde su ejecución hasta las posibles consecuencias para una vida completamente inocente.
