Summary
He throws the car in park and removes the key before leaning forward slightly to rest his forehead on the steering wheel. The car shakes as the kids scramble out of it, slamming the doors closed behind them. Each resulting WHAM sets off fireworks behind Steve’s closed eyelids.
He just needs a minute. One minute of silence. Then, he’ll go inside to wrangle the kids and clean up before Mrs. Byers gets back.
A hand lands on his shoulder and he jumps, whipping his head to see who’s touching him. Pain floods over the left side of his head and down through his neck and shoulders. He presses a hand into his left eyebrow, trying to chase the pain away with the pressure.
Dustin still sits in the passenger seat next to him. His hand tightens on his shoulder, eyes blown wide.
“Steve, hey, you okay?”

Summary
The world rushes by him, vision threatening to split in two any second. He only recognizes where he is when he trips going up the Mantis’s ramp. He leans heavily against the door, hand slapping clumsily over the access hatch. When it finally slides open, Cal falls across the ship entrance, body shaking with the effort to hold back the visions.
Safe, safe, safe his body seems to sing with relief.
He hears Cere’s voice from somewhere near the galley, “Cal? Cal!” Footsteps rush to where he is, but he can feel his mind finally slipping.

Summary
Ed’s spent a lot of time thinking about how he’ll die.
He thought, maybe, starvation at the height of the Ishvallan war, when food was scarce. Total annihilation when he faced Truth at the gate. Blood loss as he crawled across the basement floor of his childhood home. Even now, the threat of infected automail sits at the forefront of his mind. Joining the military hasn’t exactly been a walk in the park either, new threats coming in daily.
He never thought he’d go like this, though.
I feel like, as a fandom, we don't put as much focus on the Baschool arc as we should.

So, there’s actually something you should know before the doctor gets in here.” he says in a rush. “I kinda have a–,” his face contorts like he’s in pain, “small,” he grits his teeth together before his face smooths out and he continues, “fear of needles. I know it’s irrational, and I don’t know why, but no amount of logic has really helped before and–”
“Woah, woah, Ed slow down.” Mustang steps forward and places his hands on the boy’s shoulders. He can feel the tremors running through them and he tentatively asks, “Exactly how small is small?”
“Umm…” Ed hesitates, “So, it might actually be a big fear. Massive, really. Like, seriously, you might have to hold me down when they get in here with them because I completely lose control.”

Roy takes a step closer to wake Fullmetal up and get him resituated when that sound comes again. A high pitched whine forces its way out of Fullmetal’s throat. He pauses to really look at his subordinate.
His eyes are squeezed shut, his bangs are soaked in sweat and sticking to his forehead, and he’s quivering so violently Roy is kind of worried he’ll bite his tongue.
Ed isn’t asleep, he realizes, he’s frozen.

Summary
Haymitch, Effie, and Cinna move instantly towards the door. Haymitch gets a hand around Peeta’s arm to drag him further inside the building just in time for a shot to ring out. Haymitch doesn’t know what happened, he wasn’t looking through the gap in the doors, but he can feel Peeta’s entire body flinch at the sound. His eyes stay glued to the crack in the doorway, frozen.
Katniss has gone quiet. Haymitch glances over and sees absolute fury painting her face. Her muscles tense and he shoots an arm out to grab her around the waist just as she lunges for the doors.
She screams out in protest as he muscles her further back into the room.
Her voice turns desperate, “What did I do?!”
Haymitch has his suspicions, none of them good, at what she’s done. They can’t talk about it here, though. There’s too many cameras, too many ears that are reporting back to important people.

If he just thinks about it hard enough, Ed can ward off the tears gathering behind his eyelids. He can breathe around the lump blocking up his throat. He can ignore Teacher’s arm, warm across his back. Can ignore how much it feels like–
Please don’t cry, please don’t cry, please don’t cry.
A different mantra spills from his mouth, “Please forgive us, please forgive us, please forgive us.”
Distantly, he registers Al’s own pleading echoing his. Except, Al’s voice comes out clear. He doesn’t need to choke the words out, shaky and uneven, because Al’s body won’t let him cry.
And so, Ed won’t cry either.

And somehow, the thought of having to send Katniss into the arena is so much worse than sending Prim. Katniss, who reminds me so much of my best friend. Of my Sweetheart. Of myself. I’ve seen her selling game in the Hob in more recent years. She clearly knows how to wield a weapon and she’s smart enough to sell to the right people. With Prim, I could help her achieve that last wish, but she would never survive the Games. What makes Katniss so terrifying is that she might stay alive. And I wouldn’t wish the life of a Victor on anyone, let alone my best friend’s daughter.
