Before he can stop himself, he picks up the phone. Every ring seems to last for eternity. Please, he thinks, be there, pick up, don’t be dead, don’t be gone…
“Viktor?”
His heart jumps. Silco’s voice is muffled, sleep-thick, but oh so achingly familiar. He had not realised until now just how much he missed it.
“You do realise it is 2 o’clock in the morning?”
He tries to speak but no words come out. The guilt, perhaps, has stolen them.
“Has something happened?”
“Papa,” he finally whispers. “Papa. Papa.” And then all of a sudden he is bawling his eyes out, horrible, heaving gasps and sobs torn from his throat, wracking his thin frame, and distantly he is embarrassed, but he cannot seem to make himself stop.
Worn down by the crushing weight of (not actually) unrequited love, workplace disputes, past trauma, and the existential dread that comes with being an overachiever in your twenties, Viktor finally breaks. Papa Silco comes to pick up the pieces.
Returning to his childhood home in Zaun for a long-overdue rest, Viktor must reckon with his past, his future, and the terrifying prospect of allowing himself to be loved and cared for.

When Viktor finally asks why Jayce stayed behind inside the Anomaly with him, Jayce stares at him as though he’s supremely disappointed by the question— as if Viktor has betrayed his own brilliance by asking something so irredeemably stupid. “How could I not? We’re partners.”
Partners, Jayce calls them. Not for the first time, Viktor wonders: Partners in what?

There's siblings-of-divorce, waverider eggs, volatile crystals...and a Piltie wandering around the Lanes looking for blue gems and a ghost.

“Worse than last time?” Jayce posits a guess.
“It’s, eh-” Viktor shrugs. Tilts his chin this way and that. A tsk. “Bearable. I’ve endured worse hangovers in college.” he was going for a laugh, but the punchline never truly lands. Instead, Jayce’s thumb rubs softly into the back of his palm, pressing like he wants to idle the muscle mass into something new. It’s such a small thing, whatever this is, and yet it steadies the flow of his blood; the relief of loosening a valve, flicking off a pressure switch. It’s the necessary cracking-open of his breast. Jayce squeezes. Viktor allows himself the luxury of a sigh. “You shouldn’t be here.” he mutters.
Jayce reflexively shakes his head. “I took the day off.”
“We both know that’s-”
“—I could take the week.” he insists, almost a threat, a flicker of that eternal stubbornness coursing through him.

Summary
Almost immediately after Silco signs the treaty for Zaun’s independence, Sevika escorts him from Piltover’s cold, distant council chambers back to The Last Drop. He is met there with cheers, raised glasses, pats on the back, handshakes, forehead touches, dancing, singing, grateful tears and loud laughter.
As soon as he can, he slips away upstairs to Vander’s office. He closes the door behind himself and starts to cry.

Summary
If Vander didn’t know what Felicia liked about Silco before, he sure as hell didn’t know now that he’d actually spoken to him. He seemed like the snobby, asocial academic type, with his leather jacket and too-cool-for-you attitude. He seemed so at odds with Felicia, who was a social butterfly, fitting into any setting and easily making friends with just about anyone she met. And sure, maybe if Vander spent more than five seconds talking to the man he might find out, but Silco clearly wasn’t interested in getting to know Vander, either. Which was fine with him. He wasn't about to expend energy on someone who wasn't willing to return the effort.

That brought her up short. She looked from Silco to Vander and back again. "What?" She glanced at Vander again. "Why? Did you two--"
"We're fine," Vander said. "It's for the cause."
"You're leaving us?"
"Not forever," Silco soothed. "And I'm not taking Bozo Two with me, so you'll still have the big lout around to babysit for you."
"How long?"
Longer than he wanted it to be, but he shrugged nonchalantly. "As long as it takes, Felicia, you know that. Blisters and bedrock."

Vander was focused completely on his task once again, but Silco’s encouragement seemed to please him. Maybe it was hearing that he was doing a good job, or maybe he just liked to know that he wasn’t hurting Silco at all by touching him here. Either way, as Vander worked, Silco hummed happily, and peppered Vander with praise and encouragement.“So good Vander, keep going”,
“Just like that, Vander, doing such a good job for me.”
“Feels good, it doesn’t even hurt anymore darling, you did so well.”
“So good, Vander. Such a good boy for me.”Vanders’ hands stopped in their tracks, fingertips curling into the scarred skin slightly. Silco heard the man behind him release a sharp breath, as if he'd suddenly robbed him of it.
That was new. Silco smiled into the shirt.

How do you pick up the threads of an old life after losing everything you lived for? Vander grapples with grief and parenthood, being the rock everyone else needs while no one is there to save him from his ghosts. If you’re too tired to think, then you’re too tired to grieve. If he mends his community maybe that hole in his heart will start to fill. That is, if his guilt will let him rest.

Summary
Title is from the Lenny Kravitz song of the same name.
Set in an AU of the S2E7 Alternate Universe. The biggest difference is that Silco and Vander never separated after the Bridge & Silco's subsequent almost-drowning. Think what you will about their relationship in this universe lmao.
This series is finished, but I have ideas in this universe waiting for me to revisit one day...

“Slapping me?” Vander slurred, and the grip on Silco’s hair tightened, mean enough that his scalp burned. It felt good. Silco struggled against him, pushed against his shoulder. “Like I’m some kind of dog?”
“A dog would be better behaved,” Silco shot back, and that was what earned him the sock in the jaw that sent stars scattering across his vision and blood filling his mouth. He choked on it, coughed, splattering Vander’s face with flecks of spit and blood. “Case in point.”

I said you knew where to find me, and you did.” He pulled a bottle of liquor – amber colored, the glass ornately carved, an expensive article of Piltover contraband he kept squirreled away under the counter for special occasions. “You still drink your whiskey neat?”
Silco eyed the bottle. He took another drag off his cigar. Vander watched the end of it glow and crackle. Watched the curl of his thin lips around it.
“What makes you think I’m drinking with you?”
