This soldier, with whom he regularly risks his life with, has never taken his helmet off in front of Ironeye. Trying to hide his curiosity, he watches the Wylder out of the corner of his vision.
For some reason, it’s startling.
“You’re–” foamy ale drips down the corner of the Wylder’s lips and he swallows hard. “–blonde.”

From the very moment he had sensed the extinguishing of the Radiance’s light and the lifting of the heavy veil of darkness, Grimm knew another cycle would start anew for what remaining embers were still living on this kingdom. Yet one piece stood misaligned from most others; a single curious shard of black and white both, bright with terror and plunging down into the cavernous depths of this forsaken land. A lonesome ember he gave his utmost attention to, for who was he if not a guiding fire for the monsters dancing in the dark?
Unfortunately, that didn’t prove to be enough. The ember had fallen for way too long, far beyond his reach. All he could do was watch. Watch, and hope his presence made it feel less alone.

The Pale King tries to stamp out worship of the Old Light by any means possible, and in this AU, the Moth Tribe refuses to be converted and forget their deity. So the King is forced to take...extreme measures, and the Radiance loses her beloved children. She can't forgive herself for failing to save them. So when she ends up trapped in the mind of another doomed child, she decides to extend some compassion to the Pale King's offspring.

Freeing the Hollow Knight from a mad god’s clutches is one thing; freeing them from their own self-imposed chains is entirely another. Particularly when they understand their rescue as no rescue at all, but simply another god taking those chains in hand.
Ghost did not request any of that.
Hornet, having spent the past few centuries desperately believing that all her siblings died in their eggshells, has learned the truth just in time to struggle with how to help a sibling who firmly believes that their own existence as a living thing is the most heinous of crimes.
Oro is not remotely pleased at having been pulled from his perfectly fine hut to help, and is most definitely not unusually invested here, thank you. No attachment whatsoever to someone who, despite being half-dead, still tries to make of themself a living shield. None at all.
(He’s also a bad liar.)
Friends and allies can only get you so far when someone’s greatest battle is against their own mind, and many things in this crumbling ruin of a kingdom are inclined to interfere in the matter. Not all that is dead is willing to stay dead, and the past is not content to remain in the past.
