"I'm terribly sorry," said Aziraphale, adjusting his glasses. "I shouldn't have asked." He took an unconcerned sip of his coffee and stared sidelong out the back room's one and only narrow window, which was by now so grimy you couldn't actually see outside.
"No," admitted Crowley, setting his mug down forcefully in order to get Aziraphale's attention. He rubbed a few escaped coffee droplets into the badly stained wooden tabletop so Aziraphale wouldn't notice. "It's a valid question."
"I mean, it isn't as if we haven't got anything else to do," agreed Aziraphale, his voice deceptively mild.

“Woss this, then?” Ligur asked, sitting up so abruptly that everyone present jumped.
“That’s, er,” said Aziraphale, nervously, to break the tense silence, “a long story.”
“You was dead,” Hastur choked, reaching for him, “and now you ain’t. That’s all.”
“Then bein’ dead’s warm,” Ligur said, puzzled as Hastur fell on him. “Safe, too.”
Hastur clutched Ligur to his chest, more than slightly relieved when Ligur latched on and patted his back. The action was easy and familiar, as if they’d just shared a joke.

Here we are.’ Crowley said. Aziraphale looked up from his reverie and saw that his beloved bookshop was perfectly intact.
‘Oh. Ah, thank you.’
‘Don’t mention it.’ Crowley said, and reached over to open the car door for Aziraphale.
Who completely misunderstood the gesture and put his arms around Crowley for a hug.
Crowley stilled. So did Aziraphale, who immediately realised the social faux-pas he had made.
‘You.. you were getting the door..’
‘…getting the door for you, yeah.’
‘So sorry.’
‘’S okay.’
They both looked away in sheepish silence. Crowley sat back up again.‘Er.. Well, then. Er. See you next time.’ Aziraphale said, lightly punching Crowley on the shoulder and getting out of the car.
Crowley watched him fumble with the keys to the shop.
Bugger it all.6000 years of never hugging. 6000 fanfics where they only kiss.
