Summary
“It’s you,” he chokes. “Okay? It’s fucking—you.”
Dennis knows he must look like a wild animal. He feels like one, eyes blown wide, chest heaving under the effort it took to keep that in.
For a split second, he’s thirteen again, kneeling in a dark confessional booth that smells like dust and old varnish. Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. There’s a man on the other side of the partition, shadowed and faceless. He braces for disappointment. For correction. No hail Marys passed through the lattice. No absolution.
When he looks up now, it isn’t a priest staring back at him.
It’s Robby. And Robby doesn’t look angry. It would’ve been easier if he had. Furious at the duty, as he called it, thrust upon him without consent. Anger, Dennis could survive. Instead, Robby looks incredulous, like he doesn’t even believe him.
Without meaning for it to, the man had come to mean everything to Dennis. In turn, Dennis meant nothing to him. He’d known it already, somewhere deep down, but seeing it so plainly written across Robby’s face rips him open.
Or Dennis has rejection sickness, and he must stay by Robby's side to recover. Alone.

Summary
There are cops in the ED when Dennis arrives for his shift.
Not necessarily unusual, sure, but he could've done without the unwelcome news that there's a knife-wielding maniac on the loose in their immediate vicinity.
Figures this would happen on a Monday.

Summary
“Look kid.” Dennis hates when Robby calls him that. Or at least when Robby does it to try and emphasise their age gap. It could be hot if Robby didn’t actually treat him like a kid. Like he is right now. “I’m flattered honestly, but you don’t want to date me.”
Dennis barely contains a scoff. Crossing his arms he straightens, standing as tall as possible. Their height difference really doesn’t help Dennis, not when Robby is literally looking down at him all the time. “I wouldn’t have asked if I didn’t want to, Robby.”

Summary
Robby sat up in his chair, trying to wrap his mind around what was happening. “Okay, did somebody die? What the hell is going on?”
Jack glanced down the hallway where he could still hear the two boys talking amongst themselves in the living room, clearing his throat. How did one even explain this?
“A teenage boy and his friend just showed up on our doorstep. His name is Miles Whitaker, and he pulled out a photo of us with Den at that charity fundraiser. He’s Dennis’s kid, Mike, and he thinks one of us is his other father.”
