Summary
“It doesn’t have to change a thing between us,” he reassures not only Eddie but himself. He diminishes all desires and returns to the reality where they’re friends and nothing more.
“But what if it did?” Eddie replies, chest caving in with a big exhale. Buck bites his tongue back, unsure of how to respond. Those same desires reignite with the last burning ember.
It’s only when Eddie rolls onto his side that Buck notices a shift, and the veil between them drops.
or, Eddie and Buck find themselves sharing a bed at a motel somewhere in the middle of Oklahoma

Summary
“You know,” Maddie says, waving a hand in a how silly! gesture before Buck can get the word out. “The competition.”
Eddie redirects his gaze to Maddie. “Competition?”
He could drop his glass on the concrete. Or yell fire! convincingly enough to buy him enough time to run. He could make himself throw up, or pretend to faint, or just make a break for his truck and drive it directly into the ocean.

Summary
"D'you know Eddie?" Buck asks. His eyes are huge and earnest. It's not often these days that Eddie gets to see him this unguarded. Just needed to get him stoned out of his mind on painkillers, apparently. He's probably got a prescription in that stack of papers Eddie took. Maybe Eddie can run out and fill it for him while he sleeps. "He's my best—my best friend."
Eddie's heart does something traitorously squishy that he hopes doesn't show on his face. "Feeling's mutual, bud. Come on, lie down, sleep it off for a little bit, okay?"
-
Or: Buck confesses something he doesn't mean to while on painkillers. Eddie spirals about it.

Summary
Buck isn’t sure what happens.
Well, he does. He does, painfully so with an unmistakable starkness. And so maybe it’s a ‘how’, rather than a ‘what’ exactly.
Buck isn’t sure how it happens. Yeah.
And the cliche of it all, is that it kind of happened in a blur.
OR- Buck accidentally kisses Eddie.

Summary
*Chimney sobers up just enough to wipe his eyes, leaning back and seemingly reading Buck’s mind. Saying the one thing Buck had refused to tell Eddie all these years. “Nothing beats Buck at the well, though. I’ve seen some desperate moves- Hen with the superglue guy, me trying to extract a kid one time from the bottom of a vending machine but watching a man try to manually excavate a hundred feet of mud with his fingernails? That’s a new level of ‘teamwork.’”
The laughter sputtered out like a flame doused in water, and the air in the loft seemed to thicken all of a sudden, charged with the weight of the unpleasant memories for them all.*
OR
My version of Eddie finding out about Buck being hysterical at the well.
