When she sat down and placed her back against the wall, Cal remembered seeing her there before, when those nights in the galley turned into nights—here, in this room, on his cot.
Merrin lifted a finger, tracing down the metal bracings of the wall for a moment.
“We used to do this on many nights,” Merrin observed softly.
Cal lifted a leg onto the cot and rested one of his arms on it, “Yeah, it’s been a while.”
Her brown eyes, which he knew so well, shifted to his, “And why do you think that is?”
Dropping his gaze was almost shameful, but somehow facing her and admitting it felt worse, “Dunno exactly. Guess we got…a little busy.”

Also felt like an excuse. And he didn’t know why.
...The distance that was there but shouldn’t be. Esoteric moments that were once so salient and defining are but a thought in the back of the mind, put in a box and locked away.
But what if that box was taken out. What if the dust was to be wiped off and opened again.
What if we found our way back to one another again?

Luz Noceda is an oddity amongst the world of werewolves. Being one of the rare cynans that exists she was often teased and bullied for being one. Years of bullying had hardened her at least to people she didn't trust. A facade she was sure she won't break in the face of the public.
Amity Blight is a dire wolf from a prestigious family. Being the heir of her family name she needed to keep an image as her siblings had gone their own ways against her parent's will. She was sure she would stay as the pristine perfect lycan which she is.
Oh, how both of them were wrong.
One had a mask placed on her under circumstances while the other had a mask placed upon her upon forced duties.
