Summary
Sherlock made a vow, the day of the wedding, and while he may have worded it for two, it was always meant just for John. Likewise, John made a vow, it was one no one heard but he did it all the same, and it wasn't a vow to his wife, but to his best-friend, partner and truest soul-mate: Sherlock. It was a vow he would forever uphold, no matter what: He would always stand by Sherlock Homes, always.
