Beautiful white beach, familiar curved coastline -
No, Legend reminds himself harshly, trying to shove the thought away. This isn’t familiar. It’s just a beach, he’s seen other beaches before, not every beach is the beach. The beach where Wind lives had looked sort of familiar, too, before he took a closer look at it, because all beaches are similar to each other by virtue of all being beaches.
But it isn’t just a passing resemblance. As he takes a closer look at the terrain and the shape of the coastline, he realizes that it - it fits. He knows this place.
He can’t know this place, though, he thinks with rising horror, because this place stopped existing years ago.

Stan nodded, eyes fixed at the center of the table. Finally, he said “Look, if the kids weren’t so attached to you I wouldn’t say anything, but… do you know the reason they’re here for the summer?”
“I assumed it’s because their parents believed you were me,” Ford replied.
Stan rolled his eyes. “Well, yeah, that’s why they’re with me, but do you know why they’re here and not at home?”
“Oh. No, I guess not.”

Stan had always thought it was funny, when they were young and Ford destroyed something in the name of science. He'd come home once with a vacuum cleaner from who-knew-where, giggling the whole time as Ford dismantled it to build a sort of wind-powered radio. He was pretty sure his brother had stolen it from someone he didn't like.
Sometimes, Ford breaks things and doesn't mean to. He doesn't understand why. Attempts to figure it out go... better than expected, while things that should go well go very poorly indeed.

It wasn't anything unusual, because Ford was Bill's, and Bill liked to play, and sometimes the games that Bill liked to play weren't things that Ford would have thought of as 'fun' before.
Of course he did now. Anything that Bill thought was correct, because he was Bill, because Ford was his, because he was all-knowing and because… because there was no other option. So, Bill's games were fun. Sometimes, fun hurt, right? Right. Of course. Why else would people enjoy roller coasters, or bungee jumping, or boxing?
Or, Bill turns Ford into an animal. It's hard to think straight, when your brain has been reduced to a fraction of its size. It's hard to think straight, when all Ford knows is that he is Bill's.

Ford watched the sun crawl down towards the treeline. Shadows grew long in the grass as red and orange dappled the sky, breeze coming in from the mountains cold and smoky as it kicked the fallen leaves across the lawn.
The easy quiet between them went on for such a while it lulled Ford into a false sense of security, not helped by the light buzz of the beer. He should know by now that Stanley would never willingly stay this silent unless he was up to something.
