“You’re the one trapped in your own fucking mind,” Lucas argues. He gestures with a hand, eyebrow raised, to where someone is chatting Will up at the bar. “And you’re the one imagining a fake boyfriend for your best friend.”
Mike huffs. “What’s that s’pposed to mean?”
Lucas stares deadpan at him.
“Dude, the guy right there? Looks exactly like you. Just, like, less nerdy and stuff. Kind of less boney, too. I don’t wanna read too much into it, but… well, if you’re gonna have a sexuality crisis, you might as well do it before the end of the world.”

They won the battle and killed Vecna. El died in the aftermath. Oh, and Mike is a fantasy author living in Indianapolis in the 1990s. Somehow, it’s all connected.

November 3rd, 1987.
Mike was awake way earlier than he had to be. He’d been lying in bed for hours; his mind stuck on the last eighteen months. The world had ended, and now he lived in its aftermath. Even after so long, it rarely felt real. This all started when Will went missing. Thinking about that day still made Mike sick; he knew it was worse for Will.

Summary
In March of 2025, Maddison Wheeler tells her Dad that she's in love with her best friend. His reaction - and his advice - makes Maddy notice that he may be hiding something about his past. Trying not to jump to conclusions too quickly, she resorts to going through boxes of stuff from his childhood. Here, is where she finds unsent love letters to a man named 'Will Byers' from 1986.
At this new discovery, and a confirmation from her Dad, one thing leads to another, and she devises a plan to Parent Trap her Dad with his long lost best friend, desperate to give both of them their happy ending after 35 years of no contact. Will Byers is convinced Mike hates him, but Maddy is there to show him he's wrong.
OR
Painfully single Mike Wheeler has a lesbian daughter who finds out about her dad's sexuality, and the fact he's still in love with an old friend, and finesses them into reconnecting. Lowkey parent trap style.

“Come on,” Will tries. Mike keeps his head looking away across the street. Staring right at the Sinclair’s house. His jaw clenches at the sight, even though he sees the house everyday. “Mike, I know you, and you—”
“You don’t know me,” Mike spits. Instinct makes him want to glare at Will, but that means looking at him. “And I have nothing to say to you.”
He stands up. It’s only then that Will does the same.
“Look, Mike, I’m sorry,” Will blurts out. It makes Mike’s heart skip a beat in his chest before his heart remembers that it has no business doing that over Will Byers.

The day of their graduation, Will was smiling for photos with Hopper and his mum, Joyce when the phone rung. Will laughed as the tarp behind Jonathan fell again while taking photos while his mum picked up the phone. She frowned and Will could faintly hear Karen Wheeler’s frantic voice. Joyce lowered the phone to her shoulder and mouthed the words, “Mike has been missing since last night.”
The old cold feeling washed over Will again. No Mike probably stayed at Lucas’ house or something, right?
And if not, then where the hell did Mike Wheeler go?

Mrs. Ives continually lets out a weak "b" sound over and over.
Jane kneels at her mother's feet, looking up at her desperately. Mike wishes he could tell her something helpful. Unfortunately, all he has is the truth, "She's been doing it since Nancy and I came in December."
"That's better than last summer," Will says softly. Joining Jane on the floor, pressing a gentle hand to her back.
"She rocks herself every once in a while now too... She's gotten better since you came," Becky offers in a tired voice.
"Still worse than when I first visited," Jane whispers.
Everyone else is asleep when Mike suddenly wakes up in a cold sweat. He looks around the quiet house, feeling on edge. He hears the hum of electricity despite no lights being on.
He meanders through the house, pausing outside Terry's open door.
He creeps over to check on her. Her eyes seem to move behind her eyelids. Her lips form a "b" even in her sleep.
He holds the hand laying limply at her side tenderly.
"Bug."

Mike watched as he rolled down the driveway and into the street, alone.
Will was almost out of eyeshot when Mike yelled, “Wait!” Will turned his head back to the garage, and Mike knew his body language well enough to conclude that he was confused.
He jogged to his bike in the corner of the garage, grabbing the handles and rolling it to the edge of the concrete garage floor. Then he stepped down, gliding to meet Will.

A re-write of season five starting from the beginning of volume 2 since I felt I was missing something. I basically Mike his own plotline since he barely did anything in the actual season.
Basically, Mike sacrifices himself to ensure that Will and Joyce are not followed by the military soldiers after the MAC-Z attack.
However, the military aren't the only ones who want Mike in their custody.
