His fingers trembled as he lifted it, the plastic cool against his skin. He glanced at Albert, searching for the trick, the trap. But the man's eyes were steady, expectant.

After a narrow escape from police detection, Albert reluctantly releases Finney, vanishing into the shadows. A year passes, and Finney, still a small, gorgeous boy with huge Bambi eyes and tousled curly brunette hair, appears to reclaim normalcy alongside his sister Gwen. But fate intervenes during their walk home from school when Finney accidentally bumps into Albert, now older but unmistakable. Frozen in shock, Finney brushes off Gwen's concern, haunted by the man's lingering, predatory gaze from afar. That very night, in their modest one-story home, Finney sleeps sprawled adorably in bed, unaware that Albert has trailed him and exploited the open window. Gradually, the group settled down on the sofa and armchairs available in the living room in a dense and uncomfortable silence that no one knew how to break. Even Mrs. Taylor seemed lost inside herself for a few moments and kept oblivious to the way little Talia hid her face in the crook of Deb's neck, whimpering softly. There was a palpable tension similar to a bomb that sooner or later needed to be defused, and Mr. Taylor was the one to take the first step by clearing his throat, putting himself in the role of cordial businessman. Always the leader of the Taylor family.

“You look half decent in it,” Felix says with a wry smile. “More importantly, it keeps you alive.”
Felix deftly unties the final string keeping Sylvain’s breastplate in place, and Sylvain feels it loosen as Felix hooks his fingers around the protective gear and sets it down by the side of the bed with a muted thump.
“But,” Felix says, turning back to carefully unfasten Sylvain’s doublet and remove his undershirt, “it certainly gets in the way of this.”
Sylvain’s eyes widen as Felix surges forward, straddling Sylvain’s thighs and pushing him back onto the bed in one fluid movement.
